The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has recently issued a tender titled “Construction of a Bus Depot and Accompanying Infrastructure, Including a Hydrogen Refueling Station.” Published on September 2, 2024, this tender invites construction companies to submit their proposals by October 1, 2024. The initiative marks a significant step toward advancing hydrogen infrastructure in Poland, demonstrating the country’s commitment to sustainable public transportation solutions.

The primary objectives of the tender are twofold: to build a modern bus depot and establish a hydrogen refueling station capable of supporting the infrastructure needs of hydrogen-powered public transport. This project is set to enhance Poland’s overall hydrogen economy by integrating green technology into the public transit system, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting cleaner energy sources.

The tender outlines several key requirements:
1. Construction of Bus Depot: The depot will house and maintain hydrogen-powered buses, ensuring operational and efficient performance. The facility must be designed to accommodate the specific needs of hydrogen vehicles, including safety measures for handling and storing hydrogen fuel.
2. Hydrogen Refueling Station: The station is a critical project component designed to provide easy and efficient bus refueling. This includes dispensing equipment, storage tanks, and safety systems to manage hydrogen’s unique properties.

From a technical standpoint, bidders must comply with stringent safety and environmental standards. The depot and refueling station must be constructed following European Union regulations for hydrogen use and storage, ensuring the public’s and maintenance staff’s safety. Additionally, the infrastructure should incorporate advanced technology to optimize hydrogen use and minimize waste.

This tender is poised to play a pivotal role in Poland’s strategy to embrace hydrogen as a key energy source. By promoting the use of hydrogen in public transportation, the project aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with broader European environmental objectives.

For more details on the tender and submission guidelines, interested parties can visit the official notice on the European Public Procurement Website.
