Powered by hydrogen: Toyota GR Yaris

Within the realm of “ecological” mobility, the usage of hydrogen is gaining traction, with hydrogen being used in the creation of both electric and combustion motors. Toyota is one of the most dedicated brands in almost every field.

In terms of using hydrogen as a fuel to replace gasoline and other fuels, Toyota has been working on some exciting advances, which have now been implemented in the Toyota GR Yaris. Let’s see how you react to these.

Toyota combined the combustion engine whose development it revealed last April and which it later applied to a Corolla into the GR Yaris, a hot hatch debuted in Argentina in the middle of the year.

1.6L Turbo with the original GR Yaris impeller as its foundation. The following are its characteristics:

There are three cylinders.

There are 12 valves.

261 CV of power

360 Nm torque

The GR Yaris had to undergo various adjustments for its use, notably in its injection and feeding systems, so that when accelerated, it generates very little CO2; it only emits a little amount of engine oil product, as well as a similar amount of NOx created from hydrogen combustion.

As a result, the GR Yaris joins the green movement without losing its distinctive combustion engine sound, as the Corolla did. As a result, it retains a feature whose absence has long been decried by people opposed to electric mobility.

In terms of design, the prototype received a decoration that alluded to its new fuel, with blue and light blue tones (the same as Toyota’s hybrid cars) and the hydrogen symbol (H2) among other things.

There are no specifics on the future commercialization of the model. For the time being, Toyota has confirmed that it is a prototype, similar to the Corolla previously reported.

We may have to wait a few years for this model to become a reality, especially because the hydrogen engine is scheduled to be released on the market in conjunction with the next version of the Prius, which is expected to debut in 2025.
