Tecniberia, the Spanish Association of Engineering, Architecture, and Technological Services Companies, is driving Spain’s ambition to become a global hub and exporter of green hydrogen.

With a focus on achieving climate neutrality and decarbonization, the association organized a conference to showcase the country’s main projects and consortia in the renewable hydrogen sector. The event highlighted the potential applications of renewable hydrogen, emphasizing the engineering sector’s role in driving the transition and meeting ambitious climate goals.

As an industrial nation, Spain holds significant potential to lead the reindustrialization movement and establish itself as a key player in the renewable hydrogen market. With abundant renewable resources, the country has a competitive advantage in producing green hydrogen at scale and low costs. The president of Tecniberia, Joan Franco, emphasized Spain’s position as the European country with the highest renewable hydrogen production potential, presenting a valuable opportunity for energy independence and economic growth.

Engineering plays a pivotal role in achieving Spain’s renewable hydrogen objectives. The sector can contribute through the development of specific regulations and legislation, facilitating public-private financing models, accelerating the implementation of renewable energy solutions, and promoting the industrialization of hydrogen-related technologies. These initiatives are essential to drive investment, foster innovation, and create a supportive ecosystem for the widespread adoption of renewable hydrogen across industries.

Renewable hydrogen is positioned as a critical tool in decarbonizing the economy and achieving climate objectives. The deputy general director of Hydrocarbons and New Fuels of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, José Luis Cabo, emphasized the necessity of renewable hydrogen in the transition and highlighted the measures implemented by the ministry to promote its use. Spain’s commitment to renewable energy, supported by public funding initiatives, such as the Hydrogen Roadmap and the Next Generation Funds, demonstrates its dedication to driving the renewable hydrogen revolution.

Tecniberia’s efforts to promote Spain’s role as an international hub and exporter of green hydrogen highlight the country’s commitment to decarbonization and energy transition. With abundant renewable resources and strong engineering capabilities, Spain has the potential to lead the renewable hydrogen revolution. By fostering collaboration, implementing supportive policies, and leveraging its competitive advantage, Spain can drive the adoption of renewable hydrogen, paving the way for a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
