Wood, a renowned global consulting and engineering firm, has secured a pivotal role as owner’s engineer for a groundbreaking green hydrogen production project in Teruel, Spain.

Spearheaded by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, the Catalina Project aims to harness 1.5GW of wind and solar energy to fuel a 500-MW electrolyser, marking a significant step towards Spain’s emergence as a prominent green hydrogen hub.

In its capacity as owner’s engineer, Wood will serve as the technical authority for Catalina’s green hydrogen generation plant, overseeing crucial aspects such as technology selection, preliminary studies, front-end engineering, and design (FEED), as well as providing support for EPC tendering. Leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in hydrogen technology, Wood is poised to set a new standard for large-scale green hydrogen projects worldwide.

The Catalina Project holds immense promise, aiming to meet 15% of Spain’s current hydrogen demand while significantly contributing to the nation’s renewable energy targets. By decarbonizing vital sectors such as fertilizer and petrochemical industries, Catalina is poised to revolutionize Spain’s energy landscape and bolster its position as a leader in sustainable energy production.

By combining specialized hydrogen expertise with a robust engineering presence in the region, Wood aims to advance hydrogen production and industrial decarbonization efforts on a global scale.
