Yanmar Power Technology, a prominent engineering firm, has gained the Japanese government’s approval to develop hydrogen-fueled ships.
This initiative received backing from Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Yanmar aims to create advanced ships powered solely by hydrogen and batteries, striving for zero emissions.
With backing from the Zero Emission Ship Construction Promotion Project, Yanmar plans to fast-track its hydrogen engine production goals by ten years, targeting 2040 instead of 2050.
By around 2045, the company hopes to achieve 100% carbon-neutral marine power products, aiming to surpass the International Maritime Organization’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. Their commitment to eco-friendly technology will support clients in reaching decarbonization objectives.
