Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the leadership of Chairman Lee Yong-gyu, has released a comprehensive report geared towards steering the region and the nation into the era of clean energy transition.

Titled “RENEWABLE HYDROGEN, Tomorrow of National Economy,” the report, focusing on key insights from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), seeks to guide governmental policies and industry initiatives in achieving the ambitious 2050 carbon neutrality targets.

Chairman Lee Yong-gyu emphasized the report’s significance in the context of transitioning to a low-carbon economy, aligning with the goals set in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. The report aims to provide valuable insights for companies eager to enhance industry competitiveness and venture into new driving businesses.

With the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment System (CBAM) scheduled for implementation in 2026, the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognizes the urgency of securing competitiveness in new and renewable energy. This move is poised to have a profound impact on the competitiveness of Korean industries, both domestically and globally.

The report, building on the groundwork laid by Volumes 1 and 2 covering Climate Change, Carbon Neutrality, and ESG Management, addresses the government’s pivotal role in steering a sustainable national economy during the low-carbon industrial era. It delves into government policies and activities, focusing on securing the competitiveness of green hydrogen as the linchpin of the low-carbon industry. The report aims to serve as a valuable resource for stakeholders, including government officials, business developers, and investors, fostering a collective understanding of the critical role new and renewable energy plays in Korea’s oceanic landscape.

Chairman Park No-jo, leading the Environmental Safety and Technology Advisory Committee, expressed hope that the report would assist government officials and stakeholders in navigating the complexities of climate change response and achieving sustainable goals. The publication and distribution of the report to approximately 250 chambers of commerce, major organizations, and large corporations underscore the commitment of the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry to spearheading green energy initiatives.
