Sunfire and its affiliated partners from industry and research are receiving grant funding from the federal government to prepare for the serial, automated production of alkaline and SOEC electrolyzers. Green hydrogen has evolved from a contentious “new hope” to a fixed building block of the energy transition, thanks to its potential for decarbonizing energy-intensive industries. It’s no surprise, then, that demand for electrolyzers, which use renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen, is skyrocketing. Installed capacity in the EU alone is expected to increase from 0.2 GW to 40 GW by 2030, according to the plans. Sunfire, one of the…

The Hydrogen Hub Act has been introduced in the New Mexico legislature. A slew of subsidies will be included in the bill, which will be introduced during the next legislative session in order to encourage the growth of a new industry. One of four hydrogen hubs planned under the $1 trillion infrastructure bill signed into law in November, New Mexico is expected to be a contender. Environmentalists, on the other hand, have raised concerns about hydrogen as a solution to some of the state’s most pressing economic and clean-energy issues. Because of the state’s plans, they say, the fossil-fuel industry…
