Iberdrola is moving forward with the construction of three out of four wind farms, Cordel-Vidural, Capiechamartín and Panondres, that the company has planned for the Asturias region, all of which will require an investment of more than €100 million. AB Ignitis Grupė (Ignitis Group) has signed an agreement with the Northern Investment Bank (NIB) for the loan of up to €33.5 million for the implementation of the Pomerania wind farm project which is being developed in Poland. The board of Ignitis Group approved the first-call guarantee agreement for this loan between the company and NIB. GE Renewable Energy’s Grid Solutions business has upgraded the offshore grid connection DolWin3 in the North Sea. The upgrades included enhancements to the valves and control system. In addition to improving the overall performance of the grid connection system, the upgrades also reduce maintenance. Purdue University (Purdue) and the University of Minnesota (UMN) are studying the visual and auditory capabilities of bald and golden eagles to help improve the effectiveness of deterrents used around wind energy facilities. Findings from this research, which is funded by the Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO), will be made available to eagle deterrent technology developers. Bald eagles were removed from the endangered species list in 2007 after a strong population recovery. NextPower III, NextEnergy Capital’s third institutional solar fund, has made its first acquisition in Portugal. The project was acquired from the developers Azimuth Molecule and Cardinal Flexivel. The plant will benefit from a 10 year power purchase agreement, with the construction planned for Q4/2020 and commissioning in Q3/2021. Vestas has secured an intertidal order for a 29 MW wind project from the Vietnamese developer, Soc Trang Energy Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Xuan Cau Company. Located in Soc Trang, a province in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam, the Soc Trang 7 wind project will feature seven V150-4.2 MW turbines with customized towers placed on reinforced onshore foundations raised above sea level in the shallow near-shore waters. Pathfinder Clean Energy (PACE) has submitted its first UK subsidy-free solar projects into planning. Two separate planning applications for ground-mounted solar farms, totaling 40MW have been submitted to local councils in Norfolk. The projects will provide enough power for over 12,500 households and would reduce CO2 emissions by 10,000 tonnes annually. These projects will have the ability to co-locate energy storage. The two projects are located on agricultural land – one, known as Three Bridges, is seven miles north-east of Dereham, and the second, known as Burgate, is situated eight miles north of Norwich.
