Duke Energy Florida (DEF) has unveiled the locations of its three newest solar power plants, which will provide cleaner, smarter energy solutions to benefit Florida customers. The power plants namely are Duette, Charlie Creek and Archer. The Duette solar power plant will be built on approximately 520 acres in Manatee County, Florida. Once operational, the 74.5 megawatt (MW) facility will consist of approximately 227,000 single-axis tracking solar panels, capable of producing enough electricity to power approximately 23,000 homes at peak production annually. Southern Company has set new long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The company also reaffirmed its intermediate goal of a 50 percent reduction of GHG emissions from 2007 levels by 2030. These are enterprise-wide goals across all electric and gas operations. New goal replaces the low- to no-carbon goal the company unveiled in April of 2018. Driven primarily by low natural gas prices, and through regulators, Southern Company has seen a rapid transition of its system’s generation fleet. Energy Impact Partners (EIP) and NextPower III have finalized an agreement for the acquisition of a 102 megawatt (MW) portfolio of community solar projects in upstate New York. This portfolio will be developed under the management of EIP’s Infrastructure Group and in collaboration with U.S. Light Energy, one of New York’s largest community solar development companies. Amid a growing pandemic and economic downturn, the 102 MW portfolio is expected to bring 2,100 manufacturing and 1,365 installation jobs to the state and create 231 indirect jobs in supporting industries. wpd has concluded an offsite corporate PPA with Orange Polska, a wholly-owned subsidiary of France’s telecommunications group Orange, who will take delivery of the green electricity generated from the two wind farm projects ‘Jarocin Wschod’ and ‘Krotoszyn’. Both wind farms will be built in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, the country’s second largest province in central Poland. The site for the Jarocin Wschod wind farm is located about 11 km southeast of the city of Jarocin. Turbine for the 840MW power station of the SSE’s Keadby 2 project has arrived at the construction site in North Lincolnshire, following a two-week journey from Berlin.  The first-of-a-kind Siemens Energy turbine traveled by sea and through the Humber Estuary, before docking at the Keadby Railway Wharf and travelling the short distance to the construction site. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) will provide up to $30 million in federal funding for cost-shared research and development projects under a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for small-scale solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) systems and hybrid energy systems. The foundation for the converter station in Emden/East, part of the TenneT’s DolWin6 grid connection project, has been laid. The laying of the time capsule with coins marked the start of the construction, with only a couple of people attending, due to restrictions imposed by Covid-19 pandemic. MARLIN STAR project, set to revolutionize local renewable energy generation, storage and use, has been launched. The £1.4 million project is led by Plymouth-based technology developer Frontier Technical. The MARLIN STAR, funded by the Energy Catalyst programme, will progress the development and commercialization of an innovative modular, floating renewable energy platform that will enable coastal community access to stored and transferable clean energy. SSE has published its greenprint for a cleaner, more resilient recovery from the economic impact of coronavirus. SSE submitted a five-point action plan to the UK Government to meet the twin objectives of helping the economy rebound whilst taking climate action to meet net zero targets.
