Eos Energy Storage has expanded its partnership with Nayo Tropical Technology, under which it will deploy additional units of its Aurora EnergyBlock systems, rated at 125kW/500kWh, to four rural microgrid projects in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2021. In July, Eos had entered into an agreement with Nayo to bring safe, environmentally friendly, low-maintenance, easy-to-deploy energy storage to the African market for the use of residents and local businesses in rural locations. This new contract expands on the success of that program by combining solar photovoltaic generation and energy storage to provide reliable electricity to homes and businesses in…

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has selected four energy storage projects incorporating vanadium flow batteries (VFBs) from Invinity Energy Systems for funding as part of an initiative to stimulate availability of long-duration, non-lithium energy storage. California has sufficient renewable generation that during certain times available production outstrips demand, though not always when energy is most needed. The CEC, California’s primary energy policy and planning agency, sees long-duration storage as a key to stabilizing the grid and delivering on the State’s decarbonization goals. State officials expect that California needs 1 gigawatt of new long-duration energy storage to advance its targets for…
Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) has secured a contract valued at approximately S$600 million for the engineering, procurement and construction of a vessel for the offshore renewable energy industry. The contract was received from an unnamed energy company. This is in line with Keppel Corporation’s Vision 2030, which includes seeking opportunities in providing renewable energy solutions. Keppel O&M is able to provide a variety of design and construction solutions for the offshore renewable energy industry. It is currently building converter stations and substations to support the offshore wind energy industry in the German sector of the North Sea and…
McDermott International, Schneider Electric and io consulting are collaborating to advance research and design of carbon-neutral facilities for the upstream oil and natural gas market. The three companies will combine their capabilities and resources to explore and develop a proof of concept based on an offshore platform reference case. The result of the collaboration will be published in a joint study on Net Zero Upstream Facilities before the end of the year. The study defines a hierarchy of emissions-reduction technologies, ranked by maturity, investment and impact to enable operators to make informed decisions when prioritizing areas for emissions reduction. “This…
Six months after the introduction of Green Marine Europe, Surfrider Foundation Europe and Green Marine have presented the first-ever laureates of this new environmental label. Six European ship owners renowned within the maritime transportation sector have joined Green Marine Europe to earn this label and commit to a sustainable transition. Approximately 90% of the world’s goods are moved by water. Although maritime transportation is the most efficient mode of transport, this activity still generates pollution that is harmful to the marine environment. Faced with this reality, the Surfrider Foundation Europe NGO began in 2019 to outline an environmental program which…
Equinor has joined a group of the world’s largest companies with shipping activity, including Shell, Total, Ørsted, that will for the first time assess and disclose the climate alignment of their shipping activities. United Nations agencies estimate the international shipping industry to carry around 80% of world trade flows and to be responsible for 2-3% of global greenhouse gas emissions annually. Large industrial corporations are significant users of international shipping services. The Sea Cargo Charter has been developed by a group of charterers to measure and report climate alignment. The ambition is to be transparent on environmental performance to drive…
OPITO, the global skills organisation for the energy industry, has launched a new transition standard, designed to provide flexibility for workers to pursue opportunities in both the oil and gas, and offshore wind sectors. The new standard will enable learners to develop the skills and competencies required to work in the offshore wind sector, while recognizing prior training undertaken relevant to the oil and gas industry, and reducing the potential for duplication of training. This will support the development of a multi-disciplined workforce, enabling people to transfer their skills across the evolving energy sector. The associated training course will equip…
Executive Growth Alliance (EGA), founded in Silicon Valley, has put its focus on the development of new ways to resolve challenges through collaboration and shared learning. EGA is using a different approach from the traditional business to solve challenges that the world leaders are facing in the current market with everything that’s going on with Covid-19. The peer learning methodology is showing how bringing together global leaders with common goals and needs can make new opportunities and help overcome the crisis that Coronavirus put on the economies and work opportunities. The peer learning approach consists of EGA members working with…
Equinor, together with eleven other companies and organizations, has submitted a joint proposal to create a low carbon cluster in the Humber, the UK’s largest and most carbon-intensive industrial region. The application by the Zero Carbon Humber (ZCH) Partnership is a first step to creating the world’s first net zero industrial cluster by 2040 and will support clean growth in the north-east of England. The bid, announced on Wednesday, for Phase Two funding from the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, builds on a successful application for Phase One funding which was announced in April. The ZCH Partnership includes Equinor,…
Airborne Oil & Gas, a manufacturer of Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP), has changed its name to Strohm from October 08, 2020, as the organization confirms its commitment to the oil and gas sector’s energy transition and accelerates its strategic growth into the renewables market. Strohm has built up a large track record for TCP with most major oil and gas companies utilizing its qualified products for jumper, flowline and well intervention applications. The firm has now firmly established TCP’s sustainability following analysis carried out to global Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s (GHG Protocol) emission measurement and management standards. It has proven that…
