Equinor plans to locate America’s first offshore wind tower manufacturing facility at the Port of Albany, in upstate New York. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has made a selections for $130 million in new projects to advance solar technologies. Through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Office, DOE will fund 67 research projects across 30 states that reduce the cost of solar, increase U.S. manufacturing competitiveness, and improve the reliability of the nation’s electric grid. “Ensuring low-cost, reliable electricity for all Americans while minimizing risk is a top priority for this department. KACO new energy has added solar PV inverters with innovative silicon carbide power transistors to its product range. The new inverters create a host of opportunities for commercial and industrial customers to increase the cost-effectiveness of PV systems. The corresponding output of the inverters is 105 kilowatts in the international version and 125 kilowatts for the North American market. Trianel Erneuerbare Energien GmbH (TEE) has acquired its largest wind farm to date from ABO Wind AG. The wind farm, named Dreieck Spreeau, is located in Brandenburg, eastern Germany.  The Spreeau wind farm consists of eight Vestas V150-4.2MW wind turbines. The project is the largest in Germany to use the V150-4.2MW turbines.  With a total output of 33.6 MW, the wind farm is the largest in the TEE portfolio to date.  The wind farm is being built by ABO Wind and the commissioning is planned for the end of 2021.  The wind farm will produce around 110 million kilowatt hours…

Global renewable energy investment increased between 2013 and 2018, reaching its peak at $351 billion in 2017, according to a new report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Climate Policy Initiative (CPI). The 2020 edition of Global Landscape of Renewable Energy Finance highlights however, that while a cumulative $1.8 trillion were invested during the five-year period, the amount falls short to achieve the global climate commitments. Renewable energy investment slightly declined in 2018, with modest growth through 2019. ABB Marine & Ports has been selected as a key technology partner for a far-reaching EU project exploring the use of remote offshore inspection and maintenance techniques for wind farms. With funding from the biggest EU research and innovation program Horizon 2020, the project is targeting a more efficient, cost-effective and sustainable offshore ecosystem. Wärtsilä and CBO, Brazil’s operator of offshore support vessels, have signed an agreement to convert a vessel from CBO’s fleet to operate with hybrid propulsion. The ‘CBO Flamengo’ will be the first vessel in Latin America to be fitted with a battery pack for hybrid propulsion, which will improve the vessel’s energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint. The Wärtsilä Hybrid Solution to be installed on the ‘CBO Flamengo’, a platform supply vessel (PSV), complies with the DNV-GL’s ‘Battery Power’ class notation, allowing the ship’s engines to run more efficiently by operating safely with fewer engines at a higher load.…

Mayor Cooper’s administration has entered into a partnership with Nashville Electric Service, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Vanderbilt University to construct 100 megawatts of utility-scale solar power under the TVA Green Invest program. Vanderbilt will be a 25-megawatt co-subscriber to the solar array, thereby reaching its own 100 percent renewable-energy goal for campus operations. Metro-Nashville will be the first local government to pursue access to Green Invest in TVA territory. Eni and HitecVision have established a new joint venture company, Vårgrønn, with the aim of developing new green energy projects in Norway and the Nordic market. Vårgrønn intends to play a major role in the development, construction, operation and financing of renewable energy projects in the country. As a first step, the company will pursue opportunities in the offshore wind sector by participating in the upcoming Norwegian tender processes for offshore licenses, also supporting Vår Energi’s ambition to reduce climate emissions through the electrification of its upstream assets. DHL has started operating the first purpose-built fully electric 16-tonne vehicle in the UK. The Volvo FL Electric 4×2 rigid is now part of DHL Supply Chain’s fleet in London, making last mile deliveries into the West End shopping district. The vehicle is powered by four 200 kWh batteries which can run for 120 miles, carrying a maximum of 12 pallets and weighing up to 6 tones.
