The Port of Duisburg is not only building the largest container terminal in the European hinterland, but it is also the first terminal with completely climate-neutral operations using hydrogen, intelligent networking, and the ability to supply energy to neighboring districts. Duisport, in collaboration with its international partners Cosco Shipping Logistics, Hupac SA, and the HTS Group, will build the trimodal Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) on the former Coal Island by 2023. As part of the “enerPort” project, duisport and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT analyzed forward-looking technologies and developed customized models for Europe’s largest hinterland…

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy has awarded P2X Solutions, a Finnish pioneer in green hydrogen and power-to-x technology, a EUR 26 million grant for new energy technology and large-scale demonstration projects to build Finland’s first industrial scale green hydrogen production plant and methanation unit in Harjavalta.
RWE has signed a contract with Jacobs, a professional services firm, to investigate the production and supply of green hydrogen at the Pembroke Power Station site. The study will take four months to complete, with results expected in March 2022. It will look into the feasibility of first installing a 100 megawatt (MW) electrolyser to generate green hydrogen from local and grid-connected renewable energy. The project, which is linked to floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea, has the potential to scale up to several gigawatts (GW) and become one of the UK’s largest green hydrogen plants in development. Tom…
Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL) have completed preliminary studies to convert IPL’s Gibson Island ammonia-production facility to run on zero carbon green hydrogen rather than fossil fuel gas. FFI determined that the project is technically feasible based on the first phase of studies and issued IPL with a notice to proceed to the next phase. This is the next step in FFI’s ability to demonstrate that converting fossil fuel infrastructure is both technically and economically feasible. FFI and IPL will now negotiate an agreement to move this project forward to a Front End Engineering Design study.…
Hyzon Motors is improving waste collection through an exclusive supply contract with the Geesinknorba Group of the Netherlands. Hyzon, a leading global supplier of zero-emission, hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, announced today that it has agreed to make Geesinknorba its exclusive vendor for zero emission trucks. Geesinknorba already uses zero-emission vehicles throughout Europe, and Hyzon is expected to supply 300 trucks or more during the three-year contract. Annual demand is expected to rise as customers prioritize the decarbonization of waste collection, which will be aided by increased hydrogen availability across Europe. Following the COP 26 Summit in Glasgow, recent announcements…
Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Refining NZ (RNZ) have agreed to investigate repurposing facilities at the RNZ Marsden Point oil refinery to produce green hydrogen and green hydrogen products. As the RNZ site transitions to an import-only fuel terminal, FFI and RNZ have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to investigate the commercial and technical feasibility of producing, storing, distributing, and exporting industrial-scale green hydrogen and green hydrogen products. FFI will undertake feasibility studies which will assess key operational and commercial projections for the project and enable the development of a project timeline. Dr Andrew Forrest AO, Chairman and Founder of…
The release of the Danish government’s new Power-to-X (PtX) and hydrogen strategy has been eagerly anticipated by the team at Everfuel. The strategy will play a significant role in making green hydrogen competitive and reduce the Danish CO2-emissions. Last night the Danish Government launched their PtX and hydrogen strategy with the ambition of significantly contributing to CO2-reductions in Denmark. As a first step toward becoming a European leader in PtX and green hydrogen and in the transformation of difficult-to-abate industries, the strategy is critical for Denmark. Green hydrogen and platinum tetrafluoroethylene (PtX) are highlighted in the new strategy as critical…
Europe’s three major gas transmission system operators (TSOs), Enagás (Spain), Snam (Italy) and GRTgaz (France), have signed an agreement to collaborate on clean hydrogen projects.
Enova has granted Yara NOK 283.25 million to develop a green ammonia initiative. The Herya ammonia plant in Porsgrunn has now taken its first official step toward decarbonization.
After signing an MoU with Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone to study the development of new green ammonia project, Scatec met with Egypt’s government to discuss its green hydrogen plans. If everything goes as planned, Scatec and SCZone hope to build a large-scale facility that can produce hydrogen from renewable sources, which they call “green hydrogen.” Just two months ago, Scatec announced a firm project to build an electrolysis plant in Egypt with a 100 MW electrolysis capacity for green hydrogen production. The Sovereign Fund of Egypt and Fertiglobe plc, a nitrogen fertilizer producer and exporter, collaborated with Scatec on…
