PDE Offshore Corporation has selected underwater positioning equipment from Sonardyne Asia to support its work on wind farm construction projects offshore Taiwan. The company has ordered a Mini-Ranger 2 Ultra-Short BaseLine (USBL) system and Wideband Sub-Mini 6+ (WSM 6+) transponder/responders to accurately track the position its underwater equipment, which includes a seabed frame used to guide geotechnical corers. The Mini-Ranger 2 will be installed and operated from PDE Offshore’s 72-metre long survey vessel MV Geo Energy, which is scheduled to spend this summer working in the Taiwan Strait, evaluating proposed locations for turbine foundations. sPower has closed on $700+ million construction/term loan financing for Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. At 620 MW DC, this is the largest solar project east of the Rockies. The project is currently under construction, with phases coming online this year through project completion in the summer of 2021. The full financing package for the Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center exceeds $1 billion. In April, sPower secured a $350 million tax equity commitment for this project with Wells Fargo’s Renewable Energy & Environmental Finance group. CorPower Ocean has secured €9 million equity funding for its wave energy technology. The funding round was led by Midroc New Technology, with additional investment from ALMI Invest Greentech, EIT InnoEnergy and a group of private investors. Geoquip Marine has secured a contract to work on the development of the Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) commercial project off the coast of Virginia Beach. Proton Energy Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nel, has been awarded a $4.4 million grant by the Department of Energy (DOE) for development of advanced components and manufacturing methods to enable low cost hydrogen from electrolysis. The purpose of the project is to leverage the DOE National Lab capabilities to develop advanced cell configurations which optimize interactions between components such as flow and conductivity, and translate those configurations to low cost manufacturing methods in collaboration with project partners. EDF Renewables North America has signed an agreement with Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute and San Diego-based CollectiveSun to design, build, and operate an integrated energy system consisting of rooftop and carport solar, storage and electric vehicle (EV) charging. The integrated system consists of 847 kilowatt (kWp) solar photovoltaic; 800 kWp/1,805 kilowatt hour (kWh) onsite behind-the-meter battery storage; and 50 smart EV charging stations to be installed at the Sanford Burnham Prebys campus in San Diego, California.
