Form Energy, a company developing ultra-low-cost, long-duration energy storage for the grid, has signed a contract with Minnesota-based utility Great River Energy to jointly deploy a 1MW / 150MWh pilot project to be located in Cambridge. This system will be the first commercial deployment of Form Energy’s proprietary long-duration energy storage system. Form Energy’s aqueous air battery system leverages some of the safest, cheapest, most abundant materials and offers a clear path to low-cost, long-duration energy storage. The project with Great River Energy will be a 1MW, grid-connected storage system capable of delivering its rated power continuously for 150 hours,…

A new survey by the California Solar and Storage Association (CALSSA) has shown that California solar and storage industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic forcing hundreds of local businesses to shed or furlough an estimated 15,000 clean energy jobs. “Our local businesses are suffering greatly due to COVID-19. Unless immediate action is taken, the impacts could harm job growth and slow California’s transition to clean, resilient and reliable energy.” Bernadette Del Chiaro, executive director of CALSSA. The new survey results have shown that 92% of solar and storage businesses are being negatively impacted. Businesses report laying off or furloughing…
Dependable Hawaiian Express (DHX) and REC Solar, an unregulated affiliate of Duke Energy, have completed a solar microgrid solution for a Hawaiian-based freight company. The solar microgrid solution is designed to bring reliability, savings and zero-emissions generation to the company. “When your company’ first name is ‘dependable’, you better have a power system that is too. Still, my commitment to going green isn’t just about reliable energy and saving money. I have a granddaughter who is 7, and it’s as much about saving the planet for her future. The key for me was finding the right expert.”DHX president Brad Dechter.…
Yurika and Queensland Investment Corporation have partnered to deliver 15 megawatts of renewables across five shopping centre sites. This partnership will start with the delivery of solar panels, batteries and 24/7 monitoring technology with the ability to add additional renewable options such as electric vehicle charging stations, at the Logan Hyperdome, Toowoomba Grand Central and Robina Shopping Town in Queensland, Domain Central in Townsville, QLD, as well as at the Melbourne Water Gardens shopping centre in Victoria. “The five sites are the first phase of a long-term partnership with QIC, with the potential to support QIC with emerging opportunities in…
Shell Nederland along with its partners is working to create a green hydrogen hub in the Port of Rotterdam. Shell aims to produce green hydrogen on the Tweede Maasvlakte using green electricity from wind power. This wind power will preferably come from the Hollandse Kust (noord) offshore wind farm. Through their joint venture CrossWind, Shell and Eneco are participating in the tender for this wind farm. Both companies have issued guarantees to CrossWind for investments in the construction and operation of Hollandse Kust (noord). The Netherlands will need both green electrons and green molecules in order for the energy transition…
Enel Green Power Panama, a renewable energy subsidiary of Enel Group, has signed an agreement for the sale of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) with First Climate. The negotiation resulted from a request from First Climate to purchase IRECs from a photovoltaic plant. This would be the first transaction to sell IRECs to a counterparty, other than a large client, by an energy supply company in Panama. I-RECs are an instrument that guarantees that the energy supplied to the final consumer comes from renewable sources and are recognized by the main global sustainability indices as a tool that helps meet…
ABB has won orders worth over $180 million from Swiss train manufacturer Stadler to supply equipment for more than 160 trains and locomotives in Europe and North America. ABB battery and traction systems will further drive decarbonization and support the transition to more sustainable electromobility. For the Wales & Borders railway franchise in the United Kingdom the order includes customized ABB traction equipment for 71 rail units. The traction equipment converts the electrical energy from the overhead power line, generator or battery into the correct voltage and frequency for driving the traction motors. Out of these trains, 24 will be…
Clenergy has completed a large-scale solar park, located in Juocho Takahara, Hitachi-shi, Ibaraki, Japan. The company used the Clenergy PV-ezRack SolarTerrace II-A for this solar project, with the new type of rail PV-ezRack T-rail PRO 100, which is made of a stronger alloy as compared to its predecessor. “Clenergy PV-ezRack SolarTerrace II-A ground mounting system sees wide applications in the Japanese renewable energy market. Thus far, this mounting solution has been used for many large-scale solar power parks in Japan, such as Osaki Solar Park, Kimitsu Solar Park, Miyako Solar Park, just to name a few. This milestone reflects the hard work…
The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has signed an agreement with Marine Energy Wales to provide further support to the Marine Energy Test Area (META) in Pembrokeshire, Wales. This builds on an initial collaboration between the two parties in 2018 which resulted in EMEC providing input into the initial feasibility stage of the META project. EMEC guided the development of META providing strategic advice on site selection, developer requirements, operational procedures and commercial development. META consists of eight pre-consented, non-grid connected sites located in and around the Milford Haven Waterway, de-risking the development of marine energy projects by providing the opportunity to test…
Invenergy has started commercial operations at the 160-megawatt Southern Oak Solar Energy Center, located in Mitchell County, Georgia. Building began in 2018, and the project employed over 400 workers at peak construction. In its first 10 years of operation alone, Southern Oak will generate more than $12 million in local economic development through agreements for tax payments and lease payments to participating landowners, as well as wages and benefits for employees. “The start of commercial operations at Southern Oak is an incredible achievement for Invenergy as we celebrate not only our largest solar project, but also our 100th project to come…
