Airgas has signed an agreement with Hyzon Motors to pilot two heavy duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks, including one 100 kW fuel cell truck and the first Hyzon 200 kW hydrogen fuel cell powered truck to be tested commercially. These two trucks will be the first heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks in the Air Liquide Group to be tested on several cylinder distribution routes in the Los Angeles, California area, according to Brian Jones, Airgas’ director of risk management and corporate responsibility. The 100 kW fuel cell vehicle from Hyzon Motors that Airgas will test will be on exhibit at…
Tree Energy Solutions (TES), a global green hydrogen company with a mission to provide a net-zero future by decarbonizing the energy supply chain, has successfully completed its second financing round at €65 million. This fresh finance will enable TES to speed the transition to sustainable energy by constructing the largest hydrogen facilities in the world by 2030. Investors from around the world, including E.ON, HSBC, UniCredit, and Zodiac Maritime, participated in the capital-raising effort. TES is constructing a green energy center in the German port of Wilhelmshaven with the aim of supplying 250TWh of green gas per year. The plan…
Government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has released a technological development plan for the application of hydrogen energy in Taiwan, in keeping with the nation’s aim of achieving net zero carbon emission by 2050. ITRI has partnered with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to develop the road plan, according to ITRI president Edwin Liu, who believes that hydrogen energy will play a crucial role in Taiwan’s transition to net zero carbon emissions. Liu noted that the roadmap includes policies, plans, projects, and regulations pertaining to the development of hydrogen energy technology and the establishment of a hydrogen supply infrastructure,…
With the war in Ukraine driving up oil and gas costs, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet’s trade mission to Japan focuses on alternate forms of clean energy, particularly green hydrogen. Mr. Perrottet hopes to put his government’s myriad issues behind him and promote New South Wales as an attractive site for hydrogen supply. “We don’t want people filling up with oil from Middle East, we want people filling up with hydrogen from NSW,” the premier told reporters at an Iwatani hydrogen refueling station in Tokyo. The premier stated that New South Wales has the capacity and infrastructure to supply Japan and…
The Australian government has proposed new legislation empowering the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to fund non-renewable technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and blue hydrogen. ARENA, according to Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen, plays a critical role in supporting Australia’s energy transformation and achieving the 43 percent carbon reduction target by 2030. In accordance with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency Amendment (Powering Australia) Regulations 2022, the agency will be tasked with maximizing the use of renewable energy. Bowen stated that Arena would be able to supply more renewable energy to Australian consumers and companies as…
The UK government opened the application window for the 2022 Electrolytic Allocation Round of its Hydrogen Business Model and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (“HBM/NZHF”) on 20 July 2022. The initial investment round will be earmarked for green hydrogen production (using electrolyzers to split water), with subsequent rounds possibly focusing on blue (natural gas with carbon capture) or pink (nuclear electricity-powered) hydrogen production. Background In November 2020, the UK government declared its intent to create 5GW of low-carbon hydrogen generating by 2030. This target was increased to 10GW of low-carbon generation by 2030 in April 2022, with at least half of…
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, informed that the Dominican Government is working to establish a regulatory framework that encourages the use of hydrogen as a fuel for the production of clean energy, thus contributing to the reduction of the emission of greenhouse effects that damage the environment. During his presentation on “Hydrogen: Prospects of the Dominican Republic. Opportunities and Challenges,” at the Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2022 being held in Santo Domingo at the Hotel El Embajador, Minister Almonte stressed that hydrogen is a fuel for the future, and that studies to date indicate that…
Stadler will present at Innotrans 2022 its new hydrogen-powered Flirt H2 multiple unit that has been acquired by the Bernardino County Transportation Authority in California, USA. The unit will be the first hydrogen-powered commuter unit in the United States and is destined for the Redlands project in California, a fourteen-kilometer link between Redlands and the San Bernardino Metrolink station. The Flirt H2 vehicle consists of two cars and a central module called the “Power Pack” that houses the batteries and hydrogen tanks. The train has a braking energy recovery system. Each unit, which can accommodate 108 seated passengers and offers…
Researchers from Australia have discovered a novel method for storing hydrogen… in powder form. The outcome is a true revolution in the transport and storage of this gas. Currently, the energy transition, especially in the automotive and transportation industries, is mostly dependent on lithium-ion battery technology. Each year, this technology advances, but it still has disadvantages compared to fossil fuels. “Charging the battery can take up to several hours, the overall capacity is limited, and varies based on the ambient temperature or the total number of battery cycles. Not to mention the dangers posed by the extraordinary reactivity of lithium…
Green hydrogen is the new field of competition between Rabat and Algiers. While Morocco has taken a lead in this advanced sector, Algeria says it is able to meet up to “40%” of Europe’s demands. Algeria wants to position itself as the main exporter of green hydrogen to the European market. Officials multiply the statements on the ability of the country to meet the demands of the Old Continent in this renewable energy. The last release on this subject, is signed by the director general of the Solar Energy Cluster (public organization), Boukhalfa Yaïci, who affirmed, this Wednesday, July 20th,…
