Two hydrogen fuel cell-based energy generators were successfully tested at a London HS2 construction site, reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality for workers and the local population. The two GeoPura 250kVA hydrogen power units (HPUs) were tested at HS2’s Victoria Road Crossover Box in Ealing over the past year as a direct replacement for diesel generators to power site machinery. The trial, tested and commissioned on-site in August 2021 by HS2’s mains work civils contractor Skanska Costain STRABAG (SCS JV), demonstrates that the products are capable of supplying the necessary energy to power site operations equipment. Andrea Davidson, HS2’s…
The Delta coal plant is being shut down. In this little Utah town surrounded by livestock, alfalfa farms, and desert roadways bordered with sagebrush, hundreds of people will be laid off over the next few years due to environmental laws and competition from cheaper energy sources. Yet, across the street from the coal stacks and furnace, beneath dusty fields, another shift is occurring that could play a vital role in delivering clean energy and supplanting some of these employment. Here in the desolate Utah desert, developers aim to excavate underground caverns in ancient salt dome formations to store hydrogen fuel…
The Scottish Government has established additional funding to expedite the generation and storage of hydrogen as a renewable fuel. The £10 million Hydrogen Innovation Scheme will give capital support over the next four years in order to encourage greater private investment in the technology and facilitate the entry of new enterprises into the sector. The initial funding round will prioritize initiatives that promote the sustainable production of renewable hydrogen. Its effective storage and distribution, as well as its incorporation into our energy system, are essential to its viability. ScotGov has pledged to invest £100 million in hydrogen over the course…
By completing its first set of system-level trade studies, the H2GEAR program has reached a critical milestone. The research centered on the architecture and technology selection of propulsion subsystems for 19, 48, and 96 PAX concept aircraft. GKN Aerospace’s advancements in fuel cell system integration, along with hyperconducting power networks and motor drive systems, will expedite the scaling of hydrogen-powered electric propulsion, according to current research. Max Brown, Vice President Technology for GKN Aerospace, said: “Our initial view was that the introduction of hydrogen electric propulsion to 19 PAX aircraft would be easier than for large aircraft, however, development of…
Rising technology company LAVO reports that it has received more than $1 billion in advance orders for its hydrogen energy storage batteries developed by Hunter. On Friday, LAVO executives briefed MPs and ACM on the first hydrogen energy storage system (HESS) prototypes designed for household use. The briefing took place at the Tomago company Varley, which constructed the 40-kilowatt-hour prototypes in collaboration with Ampcontrol and LAVO. The system costs $30,000 and is approximately 1.7 by 1.2 metres and 40 centimeters thick. It stores solar energy in patented metal hydride “vessels” developed by the University of New South Wales and can…
Xebec Adsorption Inc., a global developer of clean energy solutions, has acquired all outstanding shares of UECompression, a Colorado-based company. UEC was established in 1983 and is a leading designer and manufacturer of air and gas compressor solutions for power generating, industrial, and energy applications. The acquisition of UEC enables Xebec to expand its production capacity for standardized renewable gas systems by a factor of five in a cost-effective and timely manner, while maintaining UEC’s legacy company as it continues its energy transformation. In addition, Xebec’s global manufacturing footprint is optimized by importing European gas generation products such as Hy.GEN…
The Romanian government has extended the deadline for bid submissions for a project involving the construction of green hydrogen generation facilities until August 16. The initiative is supported by the National Recovery and Resilience program (PNRR, €114 million) and the national budget (€34 million). The call for proposals was issued on June 29, with an original due date of July 31. The grants are up to €50 million per project, so if sufficient feasible applications are submitted, at least three green hydrogen plants will be supported, according to News.ro. The projects are expected to be finished by the end of…
The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (ACM) wants to give network operators and energy suppliers room to gain experience with the use of hydrogen for heating houses in anticipation of new legislation. Therefore, the ACM allows pilot projects with hydrogen in the built environment if companies ensure the safety of projects and comply with the consumer protection rules from the Temporary Framework for Hydrogen Pilots. The framework offers scope for the duration of five years, or the moment the new legislation is ready. The ACM pointed out to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Change(EZK) in 2021 that…
The Unigel group will hold next Tuesday (26), in Bahia, an event to lay the cornerstone of its first green hydrogen plant in Brazil. According to the company, the ceremony will be attended by political leaders from the federal and state governments, and businessmen from all over the country. Unigel also promises to reveal during the event the amount of investments in the plant, besides detailing the forecast for full operation, the names of the partners, and the differentials of the project. The event will take place at the Camaçari Industrial Complex. In recent speeches to the press, the founder…
Kicking off is the Operational Research Plan (ROP) on green hydrogen developed by ENEA and funded by the Ministry of Ecological Transition with a contribution of 110 million euros, representing about 70% of PNRR funds for hydrogen research. ENEA, in collaboration with CNR and RSE, will be tasked with carrying out research, development and innovation in the entire energy carrier value chain, which includes production, storage, distribution and end uses. To achieve this goal, the ROP breaks down resources into 40 million euros for green and clean hydrogen production; 30 million euros for storage, transport and transformation technologies into derivatives…
