Equinor, a diversified energy business from Norway, and VNG AG, a German gas firm, have decided to expand their existing cooperation in natural gas into the new fields of low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia, as well as carbon collection, use, and offshore storage of CO2 (CCU and CCS). The partners have also agreed to launch a cooperative initiative to assess the feasibility of creating low-carbon hydrogen on the Baltic Sea coast, notably in Rostock, utilizing technologies to gather, consume, transport, and safely store CO2 offshore on an industrial scale. This extended relationship between Equinor and VNG should also be considered in…

Grid operators and energy suppliers may soon start experimenting with hydrogen for heating houses. The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (ACM) will allow hydrogen pilot projects in the built environment if companies “properly guarantee the safety of projects” and comply with consumer protection rules. The ACM is drawing up rules to make the trials possible, in anticipation of new legislation on the subject. “It is important for the energy transition that companies and consumers gain experience with the use of hydrogen. The starting point is that there is no difference for consumers between heating with hydrogen or natural gas,”…

A new pilot project in Port Moody will produce zero-carbon hydrogen, furthering the trend toward the production of lower-carbon gases in British Columbia. A partnership between FortisBC Energy, Suncor Energy, and Hazer Group will introduce a revolutionary new technology to the province that will manufacture hydrogen from natural gas that burns cleanly. The project, located near Suncor’s Burrard Terminal, would produce hydrogen while storing the carbon waste as solid synthetic graphite that may be sold on the open market for manufacturing or industrial usage. If the pilot continues as a full commercial build out, it is anticipated that the project…

Institutional and commercial structures suffer a variety of challenges to their continuous operations and resilience, including wildfires, rising sea levels, tornadoes, and earthquakes. A power outage caused by an unreliable electrical infrastructure is an example of a problem that receives fewer headlines but nonetheless poses a considerable threat to facilities. As these disruptions rise owing to power surges and harsh weather, energy storage will play a crucial role in guaranteeing a reliable power supply to essential infrastructure, such as hospitals, data centers, and telecommunications networks. Hydrogen offers promise as a solution for energy storage, and scientists are creating materials that…
