SeaShuttle, an ambitious project to construct two hydrogen-powered, remotely controlled, and autonomously-capable containerships for delivery by 2025, has received NOK150 million (€15 million) in funding from the Norwegian state-owned firm ENOVA. The audacious plan, conceived by multimodal transport and logistics company Samskip and marine robotics expert Ocean Infinity, calls for two SeaShuttle ships, each powered by a 3.2MW hydrogen fuel cell, to operate emission-free between Oslo Fjord and Rotterdam. ENOVA, which operates under the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Norway, supports a move toward ecologically friendly energy use and production, as well as technology based on renewable energy. The…

ReNu Energy is finishing the design of a green hydrogen electrolysis production facility, the Hydrogen Tasmania Brighton Project (the Project), which will be constructed 30 minutes north of Hobart. The Project will be sponsored by ReNu Energy and developed by its wholly-owned subsidiary Countrywide Renewable Hydrogen with the objective of achieving early hydrogen generation to promote industry expansion (CRH). CRH has agreed to a term sheet and completed an option to lease land from Bullock Property Developments, and is currently negotiating the delivery of an electrolyser. The term sheet and option to lease establish the strategic framework for the parties…

At Liverpool Port, a brand-new furnace capable of running on hydrogen has arrived. The first hydrogen-powered furnace of its sort in the United Kingdom will be constructed in Stanlow, Ellesmere Port, as part of a multimillion-pound investment by Essar Oil UK (EOUK). This equipment is essential for the decarbonization of Essar Stanlow’s activities. The furnace, which was commissioned by EOUK earlier this year, arrived by boat on June 20 as part of Essar’s aim to become the first low-carbon refinery in the United Kingdom. In a first for the United Kingdom, the furnace will run on a 100 percent hydrogen…

Power-to-Liquids technologies are on the verge of widespread commercialization. E-fuels provide a means to increase the pool of carbon-neutral transport fuels beyond biomass-based renewable fuels in order to substitute fossil fuels in internal combustion engines. The final product is a gasoline suitable for aircraft, ships, and both heavy and light road vehicles. The Business Finland-funded Veturi E-fuel research project has completed the development of high temperature electrolysis, CO2 capture, and hydrocarbon synthesis technologies, and the combined system is now ready for application. VTT and Neste have agreed to construct a technological demonstration facility in Espoo, Finland, at the VTT Bioruukki…
