Mercury Renewables has announced the construction of a first-of-its-kind green hydrogen production facility on the border of the Irish counties of Mayo and Sligo. To progress the project, Mercury is utilizing the expertise of global engineering, consulting, and construction company Black & Veatch in hydrogen and renewable energy. Mercury is constructing one of Ireland’s first onshore wind farms and hydrogen electrolysis plants to be co-located. A wind farm generating 75 megawatts will power an electrolyser plant producing green hydrogen. Black & Veatch’s early contribution to the project consisted of feasibility studies that informed all parts of hydrogen development. “The abundance…

Environmental Protection Agency Tasmania has made available for public comment a draft set of recommendations for a renewable hydrogen and ammonia factory in Long Reach. The 750 megawatt green hydrogen plant proposed by energy retailer Woodside under the moniker H2TAS will create up to 800,000 tons of ammonia each year, according to the proposal. The factory will use raw water from the Kanamaluka/Tamar River to manufacture liquid ammonia, a major component of agricultural fertilizer, and will release wastewater back into the river. Environmental impact statement comments will be accepted until June 27. Since the release of its Renewable Hydrogen Action…
Woodside Energy and Fortescue Future Industries are competitors in the last stage of discussions to become the principal developer of the world’s largest green hydrogen facility, which will be constructed in Southland. Contact and Meridian Energy are expected to pick the principal developer for the Southern Green Hydrogen project following the submission of more specific proposals in late August. Depending on its size, a hydrogen plant might provide an alternate use for all the electricity currently needed to operate the Tiwai Point aluminum smelter, should it close in 2024. A spokeswoman for Meridian Energy stated that the proposal was not…
