As the culmination of two years of work on the Innovating High Throughput Hydrogen Stations (IHS) Project, NREL researchers have successfully demonstrated high-flow-rate hydrogen fueling into a heavy-duty (HD) vehicle system at the Energy Systems Integration Facility as part of the Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems environment. The accomplishment adds to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and industry goals for high-density fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and infrastructure, which supports decarbonization advances in the transportation sector. NREL has supported cutting-edge research on hydrogen fueling methods for light-duty FCEVs for well over a decade. However, HD trucks and machinery represent…

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has exempted the Class 8, 7, and 6 Repowers from emission standards, allowing Hyzon Motors to sell fuel cell electric trucks in California. Hyzon’s Repower program permits clients to trade their used diesel trucks for conversion to fuel cell electric utilizing the company’s patented fuel cell technology. With this certification, Hyzon anticipates offering the first repowered Class 8, Class 7, and Class 6 FCEVs for sale in California. While FCEVs have been awarded trial approvals and fuel cell electric buses have been certified by CARB, no heavy- or medium-duty FCEVs are currently on the…

As part of the Red Diesel Replacement Competition, the UK’s Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has awarded CATAGEN two new grants through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio. The grants are in addition to the two grants that CATAGEN obtained last month through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 Competition for the development of green hydrogen production and a liquid hydrogen fuel carrier. A successful initial phase of all four projects in 2022 will result in substantial funding for the company. CATAGEN, a spin-off from Queen’s University Belfast, is already selling its proprietary emissions…

Within the next three weeks, Thyssenkrupp may decide whether or not to list its hydrogen division. Thyssenkrupp Nucera, a 66/34 joint venture between Thyssenkrupp and De Nora of Italy, is evaluating an initial public offering as the preferred growth strategy option. Martina Merz, the chief executive officer of Thyssenkrupp, stated earlier this year that a decision on whether or not to proceed might be made in the first half of 2022.
