Six major automakers, including General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, promised to abolish the use of fossil fuels in automobiles by 2040 during the UN climate meeting, COP 26.
Orascom Construction has joined the Green Hydrogen Consortium, which also includes Fertiglobe and Egypt’s Sovereign Fund, to create the country’s first green hydrogen production facility. The production facility will be primarily composed of a 100 MW PEM (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) electrolyzer, which when completed will be the world’s largest independently owned plant and Egypt’s first, putting the project at the forefront of future green hydrogen production. The created green hydrogen will be used as a feedstock for up to 90,000 tons of green ammonia at EBIC, Fertiglobe’s ammonia manufacturing facility in Ain Al Sokhna, Egypt. Orascom Construction is scheduled to…
Narvik Port in northern Norway needs a new workboat that is both swift and emission-free. They are currently seeking public funding to construct one of the world’s first hydrogen-powered high-speed vessels in collaboration with eight project partners. From TECO 2030, the yacht will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells and produced at the shipyard Grovfjord Mekaniske Verksted (GMV) near Narvik. When built, the vessel will take the place of one of the port’s diesel-powered vessels. As a result, the Port of Narvik will be able to drastically reduce its diesel use and CO2 emissions. “A new hydrogen-powered workboat will put…
EQTEC has entered into a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Wood, a prominent energy and built environment consulting and engineering firm. The Company and Wood shall cooperatively target and pursue market possibilities for the development and deployment of clean, waste-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) and waste-to-hydrogen solutions, as well as the delivery of related projects, under the terms of the Agreement. The Agreement aims to increase the availability and application of EQTEC’s Advanced Gasification Technology and synthesis gas (syngas) production in new markets by combining it with Wood’s established VESTA methanation technology, engineering capabilities, and scale capability. The Parties want to collaborate…
Polet-Service will conduct research towards a power supply system that may be deployed in isolated Arctic regions. Polet-Service, a Rosatom subsidiary, is planning to conduct research into the construction of a power supply system that combines low-power nuclear power reactors with hydrogen batteries for usage in isolated Arctic territory. According to the records, Rosatom will invest RUB34.45 million (about $462,500) on this project. The NA Dollezhal Scientific Research and Design Institute of Power Engineering is Rosatom’s customer (Nikiet, part of Rosatom). The purpose of the project is to determine the key scientific and technical methods that must be taken and…
Loughborough University is collaborating with clean energy pioneer Bladon to investigate and create a hydrogen-fueled version of the company’s micro turbine generator, increasing hydrogen combustion for micro gas turbines dramatically. Micro turbine generator sets (MTGs) from Bladon provide clean, reliable power to telecom installations and other demanding applications globally. The gensets are fuel-flexible and may currently operate on diesel, kerosene and paraffin, low-carbon Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), or a combination of these. They are self-contained, requiring only one maintenance visit each year regardless of run hours or load. The company’s most recent advances, allowed by the modular engineering design of…
Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a subsidiary of Nel ASA, has obtained a purchase order from Ovako, a renowned European maker of engineering steel, for a 20MW alkaline water electrolyser. The electrolyser will be put in Ovako’s existing factory in Hofors, Sweden, which was the first in the world to heat steel prior to rolling and hot forming with hydrogen. The fossil-free hydrogen will be utilized in place of the fossil propane gas currently used to heat the site’s furnaces. “We are very excited to announce the delivery of electrolyser equipment to Ovako, and this groundbreaking project. There is huge potential…
Genevos has been selected as the marine fuel cell supplier for the £2.2 million HIMET (Hydrogen in an Integrated Maritime Energy Transition) project, which will trial a zero-emission auxiliary power solution on a RoRo ferry. HIMET is one of 55 projects selected for funding as part of the Department for Transport’s flagship Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, which is being conducted in cooperation with Innovate UK. The initiative will investigate ways to decarbonize ferries and shore-side operations in ports. To decarbonize ferries, a variety of solutions will be developed and proven over the course of this seven-month project, including hydrogen storage,…
Wärtsilä has partnered with RINA, ABB, Helbio – a subsidiary of Metacon AB, the Liberian Registry, and an energy giant to develop a hydrogen-powered solution. The objective is to develop a scalable and sustainable solution capable of exceeding the IMO’s 2050 target of a 70% reduction in carbon intensity without requiring significant infrastructure investment. This paves the opportunity for the maritime industry to transition to low-carbon operations in a reasonable amount of time. Due to the difficulties and costs associated with the manufacturing, delivery, and onboard storage of hydrogen, the sector’s interest in its direct use as a maritime fuel…
