Iberdrola continues its investment in Extremadura with 750 MW of new photovoltaic power approved for construction in the province of Cáceres, which will contribute to the economic recovery and demographic challenge in the region. The Tagus photovoltaic plant (380 MW) will be situated in the municipality of Alcántara and will have over 930,000 panels and 226 inverters on a fixed frame. The company plans for it to be commissioned by the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. UK Government agreed to invest £4.8 million in Holyhead to pilot the production of hydrogen. Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has been instrumental in securing the investment after talking to ministers and business leaders on the island over many months and making the case for Anglesey to be at the forefront of green technology. The hydrogen production centre will be designed to produce and distribute green hydrogen made using renewables for use in HGVs, helping to decarbonize high carbon-emitting transport. Siemens Energy has teamed up with Intermountain Power Agency to carry out a feasibility report on the integration of a hydrogen energy storage facility into an integrated combined cycle power plant. The initiative secured a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, one of four grants received by Siemens Energy at the end of 2020 to advance hydrogen applications in the U.S. power generation market. TSO TenneT and CrossWind, a consortium of Shell and Eneco, have signed agreements for the construction of the offshore grid connection for the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm, off the Dutch coast. The signed agreements concern the realization, connection and transmission of power between the wind farm of CrossWind and the platform of TenneT. Iberdrola is leading a project in Aragón to produce green hydrogen by building a hydrogenerator at the PLAZA Logistics Platform in Zaragoza. It wil have 10 MW of electrolysers capable of producing and supplying green hydrogen to heavy road transport vehicles. This facility, which will be open to the public, represents an investment of more than €36 million and will include building a photovoltaic power plant for self consumption which, as well as supplying renewable energy to Iberdrola, will allow the plant to use only zero-emissions electricity. Wärtsilä has invested a further €1 million in Soletair Power, a Finnish CO2 direct air capture technology company. This follows Wärtsilä’s original €500K investment in Soletair Power made in 2019. Soletair Power has developed a breakthrough solution for capturing the carbon dioxide (CO2) from air in buildings that can be used when creating synthetic renewable fuel. The world’s largest plant for storing green hydrogen in liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) on an industrial scale is being built at CHEMPARK Dormagen. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the project with funding of €9 million. The Krefeld-based subsidiary of Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, LOHC Industrial Solutions NRW, will take charge of project management and plant operation. Its investor Covestro Deutschland will provide the site area and, in the future, the green hydrogen. Alexander Dennis (ADL) and BYD UK has taken an order for 22 BYD ADL Enviro200EV electric single deck buses from First Bus. The buses, which are part-funded by the Scottish Government, will be deployed in Glasgow. Using BYD’s battery electric driveline technology, ADL will assemble the buses at its factory in Falkirk, ensuring the investment benefits the local economy in Scotland’s Central Belt.
