Moray East has successfully installed the first turbine, issuing photos of the first of 100 9.5MW turbines in the Moray Firth. In December, Moray East finished the construction of a jacket-with 100 three-legged steel foundations mounted on the seabed. The turbine components arrived in the Moray Firth, where they were processed and stored onshore. Pre-assembly testing is ongoing at the Global Energy plant in Nigg. The components of the turbines are mounted onto the construction vessel and taken to the site; the offshore installation, consisting of 5 lifts, will be completed by MHI Vestas and Fred Olsen. “A turbine is…

Linde will build, own and run the largest PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolyzer plant at the Leuna Chemical Complex in Germany. The new 24-megawatt electrolyzer would generate green hydrogen to supply Linde’s commercial customers via the current pipeline network. In addition, Linde will supply liquefied green hydrogen to fuel stations and other industrial customers in the area. The total green hydrogen produced will power approximately six hundred fuel cell buses, driving 40 million kilometers and save up to 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide tailpipe emissions per year. The electrolyzer will be designed by ITM Linde Electrolysis, a joint venture between Linde and ITM Power,…
MAN Energy Solutions has purchased almost 99 percent of the shares of H-TEC SYSTEMS, a PEM electrolysers maker based in Augsburg, Germany. Subject to the consent of the competition authorities, MAN Energy Solutions purchased the shares of the former majority shareholder, GP JOULE, in addition to the 40 percent stake previously owned of the firm in 2019. Currently, the remaining shares are in free float. “Green hydrogen is becoming an incredibly important natural resource on our journey to becoming a climate-neutral global economy. With the acquisition of H-TEC SYSTEMS, from now on we will cover all processing steps of the hydrogen economy…
The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has acquired an equity interest of 17.5 percent in Beatrice offshore wind farm from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Beatrice is a 588MW offshore wind farm built by SSE using Siemens turbines, has a track record since operations started in 2018 and profits from a Contract-for-Difference (CfD) grant. Following completion of the deal, Beatrice will constitute nearly 12 percent of TRIG’s investment portfolio. The wind farm is situated approximately 13 kilometers off the north east coast of Scotland and consists of 84 Siemens 7MW turbines using direct-drive technology. The plant has a 15-year maintenance deal with…
Wärtsilä Finland, along with Vaasan Sähkö and EPV Energia and the City of Vaasa, have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on a project aiming at the use of emission-free hydrogen in power generation, industry and transport applications. The project will be located in Vaasa and will concentrate on enabling a new way of storing renewable energy. At the same time, the goal is to pilot a hydrogen-based energy generation solution that is ideal for export markets. Hydrogen is considered to have a major role to play in meeting global warming targets. Hydrogen can be generated without pollution using…
Ameren Missouri has acquired the company’s second wind energy center, a 300 MW facility located in northwest Missouri. Clean, renewable electricity from the plant was already reaching consumers, even though some of the project turbines are still under development. Approximately 100 MW are currently in operation, with an additional 50 MW to 75 MW expected by the end of March. The remaining 125 to 150 MW is expected to be operational later this year. The new Atchison renewable energy center, along with the 400 MW High Prairie Renewable Energy Center, which Ameren Missouri started running in December, will bring 700…
Equinor is looking to explore opportunities within offshore solar power, and together with Moss Maritime, Equinor wants to start testing off the island of Frøya. The plan is to construct a floating pilot plant off Frøya near Trondheim in the late summer of 2021. It is set to become the world’s first solar floating pilot plant in challenging waters. The Municipality of Frøya has been supportive and has been active in the preparation of the pilot plant. Equinor has filed an application with the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. Designed to measure 80mx80m, the plant is towering less than…
PepsiCo has signed two deals with Ørsted to buy a portion of electricity from the 298 MW Haystack wind farm in Nebraska and the 367 MW Western Trail wind farm in Texas. PepsiCo will buy electricity from Haystack and Western Trail wind projects currently under construction and scheduled to come operational later this year. “We’re excited to partner with PepsiCo in their efforts to decarbonize their operations. These PPAs at Western Trail and Haystack are another demonstration of our ability to provide customized solutions across multiple geographies to support achievement of corporate sustainability ambitions.”Vishal Kapadia, senior vice president and chief…
Siemens Gamesa and Siemens Energy are merging their ongoing wind-to-hydrogen technologies to resolve one of the biggest problems of our decade – decarbonizing the economy to overcome the climate crisis. In their inventions, the firms are leading to a creative approach that completely incorporates an electrolyzer into an offshore wind turbine as a single coordinated device that directly extracts renewable hydrogen. The businesses plan to have a full-scale offshore solution demonstration by 2025/2026. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has announced that inventions will be applied as part of the “Hydrogen Republic of Germany” competition. “Our more than 30 years…
The European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) is launching a collaboration with the Highland Park and Orkney Distillery to pursue renewable hydrogen heating as a renewable fuel option for decarbonization in the distilling industry. The HySpirits 2 project obtained £58,781 of funding from the UK Government’s Chamber of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) for a feasibility study to explore a variety of technologies that would enable the use of green hydrogen as fuel in the distillation method. Driven by the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC), HySpirits 2 brings together leading business members, including Edrington’s multinational distillery company, founders of the Highland…
