Wave energy developer CorPower Ocean has appointed Miguel Silva as head of its Portuguese operation. The news comes shortly after CorPower unveiled plans for a new €16 million R&D, manufacturing and service center in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, to become a key focus for the HiWave-5 project in Aguçadoura with a showcase pilot wave farm. JDR has entered into a deal with Boskalis to terminate and test 100 array cables and two offshore substation interconnector cables for the Moray East offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland. This award secures further UK content for the project and comes in addition to the 200 kilometer supply of 66kV array cables and a range of termination accessories that are currently being manufactured by JDR in its facility in Hartlepool, United Kingdom. JinkoSolar has signed a contract with Shanghai Electric to supply approximately 1 GW of solar modules for Phase V of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (“DEWA”) Solar Park. The energy minister of the German state with the most wind turbines has warned of an impending “catastrophe” in the industry due to the end of support under the Renewable Energy Act (EEG). Olaf Lies, energy and environment minister in Lower Saxony, told Klaus Stratmann in Handelsblatt that the federal government must act to cushion the effect of the expiration of the fixed feed-in tariffs to “prevent the impending collapse of wind energy”. The Energy Ministry of the Biobío Region, Mauricio Henríquez, paid a visit to the Alena wind farm, developed by Mainstream, to review the progress of the project. Currently, the Alena project is progressing in the construction of the foundations that will support the 18 wind turbines that comprise it. The wind farm will produce 84 MW of energy, which is equivalent to lighting 120 thousand homes, and will avoid the emission of 114 thousand tons of CO2 per year. Northern Reliability (NRI) has selected KORE Power’s battery systems for a project at Vermont Electric Power Company’s (VELCO) headquarters in Rutland, Vermont. The Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage Project will have 1.2 MWh of battery capacity to store electricity from a 500 kW solar array. VELCO would then use this energy instead of grid power during periods of high-priced, peak system demand to minimize electricity costs and improve grid stability. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced the launch of its LV100-type T-series insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module for industrial uses. The LV100 package, which achieves high versatility and high current density, has been used widely in railway and electric power applications and now has been adapted for industrial uses. Nordex Group has received an order for AW132/3465 turbines from Brazil. For its new customer, TODA Energia do Brasil, the manufacturer will supply eight turbines for a 27.7 MW wind farm. The project is in the French developer Voltalia’s 2.4 GW Serra Branca wind and solar cluster in north-eastern Brazil. The order also includes the service of the turbines for 15 years. Construction will start in March 2021. The infrastructure work and operation will be carried out by Voltalia for TODA Energia do Brasil.
