Stanwell has released a fly-through animation showcasing Queensland’s ambitious renewable hydrogen project, the Central Queensland Hydrogen Project (CQ-H2).
This initiative, led by publicly owned Stanwell and a consortium of partners, is forecasted to generate $14.5 billion in hydrogen exports and contribute $8.9 billion to the region’s Gross Regional Product. Initially, the project will produce 200,000 tonnes per day, with plans to scale up to 800,000 tonnes per day.
The animation highlights key components of CQ-H2, including the hydrogen production facility, which will leverage Queensland’s solar and wind resources to produce renewable hydrogen, a hydrogen gas pipeline, hydrogen liquefaction facility, and an ammonia production facility at Gladstone Port. A crucial part of the project is ACCIONA Energia’s Aldoga Solar Farm, located adjacent to the project, which will supply renewable energy to CQ-H2 under a long-term power purchase agreement with Stanwell.
CQ-H2 aims to be operational by 2029, targeting the export of renewable hydrogen and ammonia to Japan and Singapore and serving large industrial customers in Central Queensland. The project is among six shortlisted for the federal government’s Hydrogen Headstart funding by ARENA.
