Torvex Energy has proved that its patented technique is capable of producing hydrogen from saltwater.

Torvex Energy, a Stockton-based research and development business, recently announced the invention of a new method for hydrogen production from saltwater. The company collaborated with the Material Processing Institute to validate the process.

This novel method of hydrogen production from saltwater produces no oxygen gas. As such, it is distinctly distinct from more conventional water electrolysis processes used to generate green hydrogen. Having said that, the team behind the manufacturing process describes it as an environmentally friendly technology.

The company is pursuing patents for this novel electrochemical technique. It collaborated with the Material Processing Institute on proof of concept studies for this aim.

Torvex Energy, backed by an angel investor, has spent several years fine-tuning this process to ensure that it produces the purest and most efficient green hydrogen possible.

It is now seeking partners and has held negotiations with interested parties in order to transition from its current status as a pilot project to commercial manufacturing.

The hydrogen production technique from saltwater is both simple and sustainable. When this process is employed for H2 extraction, it helps to avoid many of the harmful byproducts associated with saltwater electrolysis. The reason for this is that these technologies are typically preceded by an expensive desalination process.
