HYPORT Duqm, Oman’s strategic green hydrogen project, has inked a collaboration deal with energy giant Uniper. Uniper will join the project team to provide engineering services and to negotiate an exclusive offtake agreement for green ammonia under the terms of the collaboration.

The collaboration will look into the technical and commercial feasibility of working together on future low-carbon project initiatives in the region, as part of the UK government’s ten-point plan for a green industrial revolution.
Both parties recently signed a contract to that effect. According to the document, they plan to produce hydrogen in Huntorf using renewable energy (wind power), store it, and build transportation facilities to make it accessible to industry and the mobility market.
The terminal is planned to be equipped with an “ammonia cracker” for producing green hydrogen and will also be connected to the planned hydrogen network. A 410-megawatt electrolysis plant is also planned.
The Wilhelmshaven coal-fired power station (757 megawatts) is already set to cease electricity generation and to be shut down for good until 8 December 2021.
