Total Eren has commissioned its 50.4 MW Malaspina wind project in southern Argentina. Malaspina is Total Eren’s second renewable energy project to be commissioned in the country. The Malaspina wind farm is located in the Chubut province, one of the five Patagonian provinces which lies on the Atlantic coast and where average wind speeds can exceed 10 m/s. The wind farm was co-financed by KfW IPEX-Bank and FMO in December 2018 and holds a USD-based20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CAMMESA, the Argentinian administrator of the wholesale electricity market. As part of the DolWin5 project, the “first steel cut” marked the start of the construction of the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform in Singapore on December 1st. The event took place on a small scale and under strict hygiene regulations at the Keppel Offshore & Marine shipyard. European Energy has signed an agreement to acquire co-ownership of the Danish Power-to-X startup Reintegrate. This will give European Energy a say in the development and construction of e-methanol plants in Denmark. Production is expected to begin in 2022, and more plants will follow in the coming years both in Denmark and the rest of Europe. Recently, Circle K announced its intention to take off 50 million liters of liquid electricity from REintegrate. Southern Power’s 136-megawatt (MW) Skookumchuck Wind Facility in Lewis and Thurston Counties, Washington has become operational. SteelZero, a global initiative to drive market demand for net-zero emissions steel, has been launched with support from major steel-using organizations, including Ørsted. The steel industry contributes about 7% of global carbon emissions, making it one of the largest contributors to climate change. Zero-emissions steel is critical to meeting global climate goals and decarbonizing the steel sector and value chain. On track to be carbon-neutral in 2025, Ørsted targets a net-zero carbon footprint and carbon-neutral supply chain in 2040.
