ProCon Wind Energy has won the installation and commissioning of the electrical scope of the transition pieces for the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm. This wind farm will consist of 80 wind turbines a kilometer apart and 12 to 20 kilometers off the coast of France. When it goes into service in 2022, it can generate enough power to provide 20 per cent of the Loire-Atlantique department’s electricity consumption. “We are proud to announce that our team has closed a deal with Eiffage Métal, concerning the electrical scope above for the first offshore wind farm off the French coast,” ProCon Wind…

Statkraft has started the construction of its Ventos de Santa Eugenia wind project in northeastern Brazil, after closing a turbine supply contract with German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex. Statkraft’s largest wind project in South America will more than double its renewable energy capacity in Brazil. The 519 MW wind project entails 10 wind farms with a total of 91 turbines in the state of Bahia, located close to Statkraft’s existing Bahia wind power assets. Given the excellent wind conditions in the area, the project will generate almost 2.3 TWh of renewable energy per year, enough to supply 1.17 million Brazilian…
Mack Trucks has delivered a pre-production Mack LR Electric model to Republic Services to begin in-service trials in the demanding refuse segment. Mack will use key learnings from the trials to further refine the LR Electric as it prepares to accept orders for the truck in Q4 2020, with production beginning in 2021. “Mack Trucks is extremely pleased that Republic’s very first fully electric refuse vehicle is the Mack LR Electric. The LR Electric offers numerous benefits, including zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and quieter operation, and we look forward to partnering with Republic to meet their business needs through…
Audi Hungaria has, in cooperation with E.ON Hungaria, started operation of Europe’s biggest photovoltaic roof installation. Since the start of the year, the site in Győr has used only green power. In 2012 Audi’s Hungarian plant opened a geothermal facility to supply most of its heat requirements. Audi Hungaria is the second of five Audi sites to achieve a neutral carbon balance. “We have a clear aim: that all Audi sites will have carbon-neutral operation by 2025. By converting our factories to renewable energy, we are making an important contribution to counteracting climate change.”Peter Kössler, board member for production at…
Iberdrola has started the construction of its first renewable energy project in Australia, after the friendly acquisition of Infigen Energy, one of the country’s key developers of renewable energy projects. Located in South Australia, Port Augusta is thus far its first solar-wind hybrid plant in the world, with an investment of A$ 500 million. This renewable facility will combine 210 MW wind with 107 MW photovoltaic technologies and once in operation it will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 180,000 Australian homes per year. In total around 200 jobs will be supported during construction until the project…
Elektroprivreda BiH, Bosnian state-controlled power company, has installed first out of 15 wind turbines at the onshore wind farm ‘Podveležje 1’ near Mostar. According to the company, the transport of the equipment from the Port of Ploče is underway. The wind farm is being built by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Croatia, in a consortium with Wind Power, Denmark. Elektropriveda’s chief executive officer for equity investment Senad Salkic said that all turbines are expected to be installed by the end of the year. Podveležje 1 wind farm will be financed by a loan from German development bank KfW and Elektroprivreda BiH’s own…
Eos Energy Storage has expanded its partnership with Nayo Tropical Technology, under which it will deploy additional units of its Aurora EnergyBlock systems, rated at 125kW/500kWh, to four rural microgrid projects in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2021. In July, Eos had entered into an agreement with Nayo to bring safe, environmentally friendly, low-maintenance, easy-to-deploy energy storage to the African market for the use of residents and local businesses in rural locations. This new contract expands on the success of that program by combining solar photovoltaic generation and energy storage to provide reliable electricity to homes and businesses in…
The California Energy Commission (CEC) has selected four energy storage projects incorporating vanadium flow batteries (VFBs) from Invinity Energy Systems for funding as part of an initiative to stimulate availability of long-duration, non-lithium energy storage. California has sufficient renewable generation that during certain times available production outstrips demand, though not always when energy is most needed. The CEC, California’s primary energy policy and planning agency, sees long-duration storage as a key to stabilizing the grid and delivering on the State’s decarbonization goals. State officials expect that California needs 1 gigawatt of new long-duration energy storage to advance its targets for…
Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) has secured a contract valued at approximately S$600 million for the engineering, procurement and construction of a vessel for the offshore renewable energy industry. The contract was received from an unnamed energy company. This is in line with Keppel Corporation’s Vision 2030, which includes seeking opportunities in providing renewable energy solutions. Keppel O&M is able to provide a variety of design and construction solutions for the offshore renewable energy industry. It is currently building converter stations and substations to support the offshore wind energy industry in the German sector of the North Sea and…
McDermott International, Schneider Electric and io consulting are collaborating to advance research and design of carbon-neutral facilities for the upstream oil and natural gas market. The three companies will combine their capabilities and resources to explore and develop a proof of concept based on an offshore platform reference case. The result of the collaboration will be published in a joint study on Net Zero Upstream Facilities before the end of the year. The study defines a hierarchy of emissions-reduction technologies, ranked by maturity, investment and impact to enable operators to make informed decisions when prioritizing areas for emissions reduction. “This…
