A U.S.-based wind energy leader pitched a green hydrogen project for the Port of Argentia at a long-running annual conference in St. John’s that generally focuses only on oil and gas. “Today I suppose we’ve made the next step in Argentia’s transformation to a green economy,” said Wayne Power, chairman of the Port of Argentia’s board of directors and deputy mayor of the neighboring city of Placentia. Pattern Energy, headquartered in San Francisco, is a global leader in renewable energy, producing over six gigawatts of electricity. It is also well-established in Canada, having wind farms in five provinces. Now, it…

Seven German wind, renewables, and hydrogen organizations teamed up with IG Metall to seek a faster ramp-up of green H2 production at sea, hydrogen tenders next year, and dedicated North Sea hydrogen pipelines. Northern German organisations united as ‘Offshore-Wind-H2-Achter’ in a six-step request for a’sprinter program’ for offshore-wind-to-hydrogen to avoid Germany missing worldwide developments. Hydrogen generation at sea in Germany’s EEZ offers enormous prospects for expanding electrolysis capacity for the national and European hydrogen plan and for offshore wind energy growth, the eight groups stated in a joint study. Cross-border cooperation is essential for a green hydrogen economy, the groups…

EnBW has begun three significant fuel switch projects over the past year to convert existing coal power plant sites in Altbach/Deizisau, Stuttgart-MĂĽnster, and Heilbronn into natural gas and, beginning in the 2030s, green hydrogen facilities. The company’s goal is to become climate-neutral by 2035. This week, EnBW and a partnership composed of General Electric, SENER, and Bonatti signed agreements for the Heilbronn and Altbach/Deizisau sites. The significant order, with a volume in the mid-three-digit million range per site, covers the building of one combined heat and power plant and the related maintenance and servicing work. The contracts are being granted…

While battery-powered electric bikes have been at the forefront of efforts to build carbon-neutral motorcycles, there has long been interest for hydrogen as an alternative green fuel, and now engineering powerhouse Bosch has endorsed the concept. The statement includes intentions to construct 4000 hydrogen filling stations by 2030, representing one-third of all hydrogen stations worldwide. These will utilize new compressors co-developed by Bosch’s “Bosch Rexroth” subsidiary and Maximator Hydrogen, which will enable vehicles to be directly refueled with compressed hydrogen without intermediary storage tanks. It is anticipated that this technology will reduce the cost of gas stations by half compared…

Vattenfall will sell the ‘Magnum’ natural gas-fired power station in Eemshaven, Groningen, to RWE. The two companies have inked a corresponding agreement. With an installed capacity of 1.4 gigawatts, the plant, which has been operational since 2013, is among the most contemporary of its kind. Magnum is located in close proximity to RWE’s existing power station in Eemshaven, a hard coal and biomass-fired facility with a capacity of 1,560 megawatts. RWE therefore anticipates substantial benefits from pooling local infrastructure. Already hydrogen-capable natural gas-fired power plant Magnum is already “hydrogen-ready” due to its building design; the plant may be made technically…
