MAN Energy Solutions and ANDRITZ Hydro have agreed to collaborate on international initiatives for the production of green hydrogen from hydropower. The deal was signed in Ravensburg by Frank Mette, CEO of ANDRITZ Hydro in Germany, and Dr. Uwe Lauber, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer of MAN Energy Solutions. The collaboration will begin with a pilot project in Europe. Following that, the companies want to collaborate on identifying further initiatives and implementing them as part of the German Federal Government’s H2 Global initiative. H2 Global is a market-based financing platform dedicated to promoting the market entry of green…
Southern California Gas (SoCalGas), Sierra Northern Railway (SNR), and the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) have teamed up to build a brand-new hydrogen fuel cell engine that will be installed in a switcher locomotive now undergoing diesel conversion in the United States. The trio announced that the project has been awarded $4 million by the California Energy Commission to support the train’s design and demonstration. Additionally, SoCalGas has committed an additional $500,000 to the project. Sierra Northern Railway will retire a high-emission Tier 0 diesel locomotive engine and replace it with a hydrogen alternative that is now being developed in order to…
Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) has entered into a framework agreement with JSW Future Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, to investigate potential for green hydrogen development in India. Under the terms of the agreement, FFI and JSW Energy will collaborate to scope potential projects involving the production of green hydrogen and the exploration of opportunities to use it in India for green steel manufacturing, hydrogen mobility, green ammonia, and other mutually agreed industrial applications. FFI CEO, Julie Shuttleworth said, “FFI’s goal is to become the world’s leading fully renewable energy and green products company. “The world’s…
Alpiq, EW Höfe, and SOCAR Energy Switzerland intend to construct an electrolysis facility in Freienbach with a capacity of up to 10 MW. The plant’s commissioning is anticipated to begin around the end of 2022, and once completed, it will produce approximately 1000 to 1200 tonnes of green hydrogen per year to enable zero-emission mobility. Additionally, the exhaust heat will be channeled into the newly built regional district heating network. Thus, the plant will set new efficiency benchmarks and make a significant contribution to Switzerland’s climate-friendly energy supply. Green hydrogen is a critical component of the energy revolution since it…
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Hydrogen Europe, an umbrella organization comprising European business, research, and national and regional groups involved in the hydrogen and fuel cell sectors, inked a consulting agreement today. Under the terms of the deal, the EU bank will provide financial advising services for Hydrogen Europe’s hydrogen projects. Additionally, it will collaborate on market development activities and market outreach. Finally, the agreement will contribute to the development of EIB financing products specifically for green hydrogen. Hydrogen technology has the potential to make a significant contribution to the EU economy becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Hydrogen’s current…
Air Liquide intends to construct a renewable hydrogen electrolysis facility in Oberhausen, Germany. With a total capacity of 30 megawatts (MW), the project’s first phase is planned to be operational by early 2023 with a capacity of 20 MW. What makes this project special is that the electrolyzer will be linked into Air Liquide’s existing local pipeline infrastructure, supplying renewable hydrogen to critical businesses and mobility in one of Germany’s most industrialized regions. The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy has provided public financing to expedite the completion of this project. This world-scale electrolyzer will be the first…
The climate, public health, and jobs benefits of electric vehicles are clear, but how do we get to a highly electrified transportation future when internal combustion engines still dominate the market today? To reap these benefits, we need a smart combination of federal and state actions to pave the way. In this final episode of our 3-part transportation series, host Sara Baldwin speaks with Margo Oge, former Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to learn more about the critical role of the EPA in setting tailpipe emission standards nationally. And, we…
Hyzon Motors Inc., a global leader in hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RenewH2, a sustainable hydrogen production, liquefaction, distribution, and dispensing company based in the United States, to collaborate on the supply and demand sides of liquid hydrogen production. RenewH2 intends to reform biogenic methane gas to generate hydrogen within the terms of the MoU. The hydrogen would then be liquefied and sent to hydrogen filling stations created in conjunction with Hyzon. The stations can be positioned near Hyzon clients as a result of this agreement, ensuring consistent demand for…
The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) recently received a funding to assist with the deployment of 30 Hyundai XCIENT Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCET) in northern California. California Climate Investments sponsored a portion of the funding, which was awarded by the California Air Resources Board and the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program. Additionally, the Alameda County Transportation Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District have contributed approximately $6 million in cost-share financing to the project. This will be North America’s largest commercial deployment of Class 8 hydrogen FCETs. These trucks will service…
