CHAR’s high-temperature pyrolysis system will convert 18,000 tonnes of solid anaerobic disgestate per year into 1,320 tonnes of green hydrogen and 2,800 tonnes of biocarbon under the terms of the definitive agreement.
Plug Power Inc. has announced the appointment of David Mindnich as executive vice president of global manufacturing. Mindnich, a 15-year manufacturing veteran who oversaw operations at Tesla’s Gigafactory, will join the firm as executive vice president of global manufacturing. Mindnich, who will report directly to CEO Andy Marsh, will be responsible for modernizing Plug Power’s production processes through process efficiencies and organizational transformation. He will be responsible for optimizing Plug Power’s global production facilities’ performance through his experience with high-volume global manufacturing, process improvement, and automation. Modernizing operations will increase profitability and solidify the company’s position as a leader in…
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) intends to initiate a procurement procedure for a study on the role of hydrogen in decarbonizing resource- and energy-intensive industries (REIIs). This announcement is made in accordance with Annex I.14 of Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2018/1046 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 July 2018 on the financial rules applicable to the Union’s general budget, to award a low-value contract following a negotiated procedure. It is being publicized in advance of the procurement procedure to provide interested economic operators with the opportunity to express their interest in participating as a tenderer…
Avangrid Inc., located in Portland, and its Avangrid Renewables subsidiary said they aim to create the popular but early-stage fuel at their Klamath Cogeneration Plant in Southern Oregon. The natural-gas-fueled plant is part of Avangrid’s Pacific Northwest portfolio, which includes about a fifth of the region’s wind generation, smaller amounts of solar, and some contracted hydropower. Hydrogen is a pure fuel, but it must be liberated from compounds before it can be used. The most common method is natural gas reforming, which produces a lot of carbon dioxide. An electrolyzer, which is driven by renewable energy, splits water into hydrogen…
A multimillion-pound partnership between Octopus Hydrogen and Luxfer Gas Cylinders is opening the path for cleaner and greener heavy goods transportation and aviation. Luxfer Gas Cylinders, a global leader in high-pressure composite and aluminum cylinders, has partnered with Octopus Hydrogen, a subsidiary of green energy technology pioneer Octopus Energy, to specify and supply bulk gas transport modules that will transport green hydrogen across the United Kingdom. Luxfer’s 40-foot-long units, dubbed Multiple Element Gas Containers (MEGC), are capable of transporting 1.1 tonnes of hydrogen from the electrolyser plant to the site of application. They will be installed beginning in mid-2022 and…
Heliogen and Bloom Energy revealed plans to generate green hydrogen using only concentrated solar power and water, advancing the world’s transition to a zero-carbon future even faster. By combining near-continuous carbon-free electricity and steam generated by Heliogen’s Sunlight Refinery solar power generation system with Bloom Energy’s highly efficient solid oxide electrolyzer, the companies will produce green hydrogen that can be used in commercial and industrial applications in place of fossil-derived fuels. Bloom Energy’s steam electrolyzers are about 30% more efficient than low-temperature electrolyzers such as polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) and alkaline electrolyzers. Complementary technologies enable economically viable green hydrogen production…
Topsoe’s SynCOR technology enables the capture of more than 95% of CO2 emissions associated with the manufacture of blue hydrogen from natural gas at the recently announced Air Products facility in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This new facility, based on Topsoe’s SynCORTM autothermal reforming technology, will recover over 95% of the CO2 produced and safely store it below. The facility will be powered by hydrogen-fueled energy, which will offset the remaining 5% of emissions at the site. The renewable energy complex will assist customers in the refining and petrochemical industries served by Air Products’ Heartland Hydrogen Pipeline in reducing their carbon…
Contact Energy and Meridian Energy aim to build the world’s largest green hydrogen plant in Southland, New Zealand – and McKinsey & Co estimate it may generate hundreds of millions of dollars in export revenue. Contact Energy and Meridian commissioned McKinsey & Co to conduct an investigation into the use of renewable energy in Southland to scale up the production of green hydrogen. McKinsey & Company estimates that global hydrogen demand might more than sevenfold to 553 million tonnes by 2050, with Southland poised to capitalize on this growing opportunity. The economic benefits described in the paper for a 600MW…
According to a feasibility study, the Cromarty Firth would be an ideal location for the UK’s largest green hydrogen electrolyser. The North of Scotland Hydrogen Programme’s ‘Distilleries Project’ found a number of sites adjacent to the Firth that are suitable for a 35MW electrolyser facility capable of producing up to 14 tonnes of green hydrogen per day by 2024. The project could be extended further to fulfill the growing need for green hydrogen in Scotland, the United Kingdom, and abroad. This zero-carbon fuel is a critical component of the Scottish Government’s decarbonisation strategy, as it would significantly contribute to the…
