Ørsted has made a final investment decision on the Old 300 Solar Center, which is located in Fort Bend County, 40 miles from Houston, Texas, and is scheduled to be come online in Q2 2022. With the addition of Old 300, Ørsted has substantially expanded its solar portfolio and now has 1.1 GW of solar PV under construction, resulting in a total capacity of 3.4 GW in operation and under construction through onshore wind, solar PV and storage. Old 300 is located close to Houston and benefits from a long-term PPA. “We’re excited to add another large-scale, attractively contracted solar project…
MHI Vestas and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have secured a 5000 square meter site centrally located in zone 1 of Taichung Harbour, adjacent to the pre-assembly quayside of CIP’s Changfang & Xidao offshore wind project. The site is intended for assembly activities for some of the projects to be delivered in Taiwan using V174 technology. This site is being leased from Fortune Extra High Voltage, a subsidiary of Fortune Electric. For some MHI Vestas projects, turbine hub assembly and final nacelle-related assembly and testing are expected to be carried out on site. The hub assembly activities at Fortune’s site will…
Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has, on behalf of the Australian Government, provided $12.9 million in funding to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for the development of a major Victorian Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Marketplace trial named Project Edge. Based in the Hume region of north east Victoria, the $28 million project will see AEMO partner with network AusNet Services and retailer Mondo Power to coordinate the development of a replicable model for trading of electricity and grid services from DER that can be expanded across the National Electricity Market (NEM). The three-year trial will create a prototype market…
Enel and Eni are working together to produce green hydrogen through electrolyzers powered by renewable energy. The electrolyzers will be located near two of the Eni refineries where green hydrogen appears to be the best decarbonisation method. Each of the two pilot projects will have an electrolyzer of about 10 MW and is expected to start producing green hydrogen by 2022-2023. “We are interested in exploring with Eni the promising green hydrogen sector. Together, we identified a couple of sites where we can start with the first projects. The overall system we have in mind will be working as a…
The Nordex Group has received the IEC Type Certificate, which is valid worldwide, in compliance with the IEC 61400-22 standard for the N149/5.X turbine from TÃœV SÃœD. In the past few months, TÃœV SÃœD has been testing and evaluating the overall concept as well as all the key components of the N149/5.X turbine as part of a type certification process focused on international IEC standards. With the type certificate, the independent certification agency has now verified the assessment of the design efficiency of N149/5.X with the applicable standard as well as the conduct of the turbine in the field on the…

The Ocean Renewable Energy Action Coalition (OREAC) is calling on governments to step up their offshore renewable energy commitment to achieve the coalition’s goal of 1,400 GW offshore wind by 2050. In support of a rapid, global scale-up of ocean-based clean energy, OREAC has published ‘The Power of Our Ocean’ as a guiding document for countries to accelerate offshore wind production and reap the socio-economic, environmental and health benefits it can bring. In its new report, OREAC outlines a roadmap to support the sustainable development of ocean-based renewable energy and five main building blocks for offshore wind growth: stable policies,…
Casa dos Ventos has placed an order of 534 MW for the second stage of the Rio do Vento complex, located in the State of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil. The extension will connect to the first phase of the 504 MW project currently under development, and the combined complex of more than 1 GW will be the largest wind project in Latin America to date. For the project, Vestas has built a tailored solution featuring V150-4.2 MW wind turbines, some of which are delivered in 4.3 MW and others in 4.5 MW Power Optimized Mode, to maximize the…
Business development organizations of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen, and Schleswig-Holstein have joined forces to form the green hydrogen initiative HY-5. The new initiative aims to turn Northern Germany into the strongest emerging region for green hydrogen in the heart of Europe and to complete the value chain for green hydrogen. Together the federal states want to create synergies for locational marketing and communications to establish Northern Germany as a hotspot on the European hydrogen map. A recent OECD study confirms that Northern Germany is particularly suited for the development and establishment of a green hydrogen economy. The region has unique…
