Latvia’s Liepaja Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Authority, in collaboration with CIS Liepaja, a joint project management team, has inked a two-year reservation contract for a potential construction site for a renewable energy complex, including a hydrogen production plant, at the Port of Liepaja.
The ambitious project, slated for completion by 2030, aims to establish a hydrogen production plant and port terminal, with Clean Industrial Solutions leading the initiative. The plant, boasting a capacity of 1000 MW and an estimated production volume of 150,000 tons of hydrogen annually, holds significant promise for Latvia’s energy landscape.
Liepaja SEZ anticipates the creation of 80-100 new jobs for highly qualified specialists, fostering innovation and scientific research. Additionally, the project is expected to catalyze the development of supply chains, enhance export opportunities, and bolster international recognition, thereby enhancing the city’s and the port’s competitiveness.
The planned hydrogen production plant dovetails with other green initiatives, including the establishment of a hydrogen-powered aircraft assembly plant, underscoring Latvia’s commitment to the European Green Course.
