The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), Orkney, Scotland, has joined forces with Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) to develop a large-scale tidal energy site off the Isle of Wight, England. This site will be eligible to bid into future UK Contracts for Difference (CfD) allocation rounds enabling tidal energy technologies developed in the UK to deliver predictable low carbon energy. PTEC is a 30 MW tidal energy demonstration facility 2.5 km south of the Isle of Wight, with potential expansion capacity up to 300 MW. EMEC is already working on site development and optimization activities. This will build upon the…
Boskalis has, in recent months, installed more than 5,350 solar panels on the roof of its distribution center in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. With these solar panels the company generates approximately 1.6 million kilowatt hours of green electricity each year, equivalent to the annual consumption of 560 households. The new distribution center became operational mid-2019 and provides global logistical support for the various Boskalis projects. The flat roof of over 16,000 square meters lends itself perfectly to this large number of solar panels. Boskalis realized this project in partnership with Zonnegilde and Triodos Bank Nederland. “With this large-scale generation of solar…
Swedish wave energy company, Eco Wave Power has developed a new software for real-time production verification, which also allows for the timely maintenance of the wave energy power plants. The company’s R&D and engineering department used extensive analysis of the global wave energy industry and found a strong need for the possibility of real-time production verification, which shall have significant impact on the possibility of the wave energy sector to secure debt financing and also impact on maintenance processes, including cost minimization and duration. The ensuing research focused on developing a computer system connected to a wave measuring technology on…
VLV Development (VLV) has completed 1.1MW solar facility that is part of the Bronzeville Micro-Grid Cluster. In collaboration with the local utility and other stakeholders, VLV financed, designed and delivered the solar installation located at Dearborn Homes, a 17-building public housing development serving 660 units of federally subsidized housing. VLV worked with local minority solar trainers, contractors and distributors to support the system’s installation. VGI Energy Solutions, VLV’s energy division, will provide the operations and maintenance of the facility. At Dearborn Homes, VLV designed and installed approximately 3,000 solar panels across 16 low-income high-rise buildings, the management office and two…
