H2scan, a pioneer in the development of proven, proprietary hydrogen sensors and technology for the hydrogen economy, announced that it has begun distributing prototypes of its new HY-OPTIMA 5000 Series for process industries. The HY-OPTIMA 5000 Series analyzer is the most accurate, tolerant, and cost-effective tool for measuring hydrogen process gases in industrial applications. It is optimized for cost-sensitive emerging applications such as power-to-gas (hydrogen blending into natural gas pipelines), electrolyzers, and other process applications such as laboratories, alternative energy, hydrogen-cooled generators, and turbines. The HY-OPTIMA 5000 sensors utilize the same unique autocalibration technology as the highly successful GRIDSCAN 5000…

Birmingham City Council launched the first of 20 new hydrogen buses that will enter service later this year. The new buses are part of the Council’s Clean Air Hydrogen Bus Pilot, which aims to ‘kick-start’ the hydrogen market as a viable zero-emission fuel source. Hailed as another way to address the city’s poor air quality and a critical step toward the council’s net zero carbon goal. Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, Councillor Waseem Zaffar said: “Fuel cell buses offer a practical solution for cities to decarbonise public transport and immediately improve air quality. “The delivery of the…
Ballard Power Systems has received a purchase order for one of its 200-kilowatt (kW) FCwave fuel cell modules from Fusion-Fuel, a Portuguese-based innovator of green hydrogen solutions. The module will be integrated into Fusion-H2Evora Fuel’s project in Portugal’s Évora region. The H2Evora project will utilize Fusion-revolutionary Fuel’s HEVO electrolyzer design to generate green hydrogen for use in the FCwaveTM module’s zero-emission electricity generation. Ballard anticipates delivering the FCwaveTM module to Fusion-Fuel by the end of the year. Fusion-HEVO Fuel’s electrolyzer is compact, lightweight, and mass-producible. It can be used in conjunction with a high-efficiency solar cell attached to a specially…
Johnson Matthey (JM), as a member of the leading European consortium GAIA, has contributed to the achievement of a 1.8 W/cm2 @ 0.6V fuel cell power density. This is a 20% boost over current technology. This market-leading performance represents a significant advancement for fuel cell technology and JM’s goal of net zero emissions. JM has been instrumental in achieving this step-change, supplying critical components within the fuel cell stack – the membrane electrode assemblies – in collaboration with BMW, Freudenberg, and 3M, among others (MEAs). This achievement demonstrates how JM is leveraging its expertise in fuel cell technology to help…
The Health and Safety Executive has approved the next phase of a ground-breaking green energy trial that could help Britain significantly reduce its carbon emissions and pave the way for a low-carbon hydrogen economy (HSE). The HyDeploy project will combine hydrogen and natural gas over a Northern Gas Networks-operated public gas network in Winlaton, Gateshead. Heating accounts for a third of carbon emissions in the UK at the moment. Due to the fact that hydrogen emits no carbon at the time of use, it is a feasible alternative for heating homes and businesses in order to meet the Government’s Net…
The Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS)— a technical community within the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and a global organization dedicated to the safe advancement of hydrogen as a next-generation fuel — has announced a partnership with energy giant bp, which has joined the CHS board of directors to demonstrate its commitment to energy transition safety. “We are excited to have bp as an executive member of CHS,” said Nick Barilo, Executive Director of the CHS. “bp has the vision to appreciate hydrogen’s major role in transforming the world’s energy portfolio and to recognize the significance that safety has…
Joo Pedro Matos Fernandes, Portugal’s Minister of the Environment and Energy Transition, and Joo Galamba, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Energy, attended an event hosted by Fusion Fuel Green at its H2Évora green hydrogen demonstration plant in Évora, Portugal. Additionally in attendance were the Mayor of Évora, Carlos Pinto de Sá, the Moroccan Ambassador to Portugal, Othmane Bahnini, and a representative from the Australian Embassy in Lisbon, all of whom joined due to Fusion Fuel’s large-scale projects and strategic partnerships in their respective countries. Fusion Fuel’s Évora Project’s Phase I has 15 HEVO-SOLAR units that will generate 15 tons of…
South Korea is a pioneer in the transition to a low-carbon hydrogen economy and clean transportation. By leveraging its command of the whole hydrogen value chain and collaborating with local industrial and institutional stakeholders, Air Liquide is actively contributing to the rapid growth of low-carbon hydrogen production in South Korea. Due to the country’s robust integrated infrastructure, the Group is committed to expanding its footprint into the majority of the regions. The South Korean government aspires to establish the country as a leader in the field of hydrogen transportation. Air Liquide is committed to invest across the whole hydrogen supply…
NWUAV was joined by a number of stakeholders on Thursday, July15, to commemorate the grand opening of their hydrogen fuel cell production facility. The NWUAV campus in McMinnville, Oregon is a one-of-a-kind UAV technology and manufacturing cluster, featuring UAV engineering, machining, wiring, engine manufacture, testing, and now UAV hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing. The grand opening ceremony featured a range of speakers, each with a unique perspective on the hydrogen fuel cell technology and manufacturing center’s ramifications. Chris Harris, President and Owner of Northwest UAV, opened the event by introducing everyone and discussing what has enabled this technology and the success…
On the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan’s largest hydrogen plant powered by offshore wind energy is set to open as part of a national effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The project, which is scheduled to commence operations in the year ending March 2024, will produce approximately 550 tons of hydrogen per year — enough to fuel more than 10,000 hydrogen vehicles. The initiative is a first step toward developing a domestic supply of hydrogen that is “green,” or derived from renewable energy. Green hydrogen produced from offshore wind energy is still uncommon globally – particularly in Japan, which is…
