The Executive has approved the strategic initiative for the recovery and economic transformation of renewable energy, renewable hydrogen, and storage (PERTE), which aims to raise 16.3 billion euros (6.9 billion in public funds and 9.5 billion in private sector investments).
Hyundai Engineering will complete a technological demonstration test to manufacture high-purity clean hydrogen utilizing waste plastics as a raw material by the end of this year and will begin construction on a hydrogen production facility the following year. The facility will be built in Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, at a total cost of 400 billion won.
Metals commonly used for pipes and industrial plants show no signs of increased hydrogen embrittlement even under stress. Mixing hydrogen with natural gas or using gas lines for hydrogen transport is therefore feasible, according to the researchers.
