The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Hydrogen Europe, an umbrella organization comprising European business, research, and national and regional groups involved in the hydrogen and fuel cell sectors, inked a consulting agreement today. Under the terms of the deal, the EU bank will provide financial advising services for Hydrogen Europe’s hydrogen projects. Additionally, it will collaborate on market development activities and market outreach. Finally, the agreement will contribute to the development of EIB financing products specifically for green hydrogen. Hydrogen technology has the potential to make a significant contribution to the EU economy becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Hydrogen’s current…

Air Liquide intends to construct a renewable hydrogen electrolysis facility in Oberhausen, Germany. With a total capacity of 30 megawatts (MW), the project’s first phase is planned to be operational by early 2023 with a capacity of 20 MW. What makes this project special is that the electrolyzer will be linked into Air Liquide’s existing local pipeline infrastructure, supplying renewable hydrogen to critical businesses and mobility in one of Germany’s most industrialized regions. The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy has provided public financing to expedite the completion of this project. This world-scale electrolyzer will be the first…
The climate, public health, and jobs benefits of electric vehicles are clear, but how do we get to a highly electrified transportation future when internal combustion engines still dominate the market today? To reap these benefits, we need a smart combination of federal and state actions to pave the way. In this final episode of our 3-part transportation series, host Sara Baldwin speaks with Margo Oge, former Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to learn more about the critical role of the EPA in setting tailpipe emission standards nationally. And, we…
Hyzon Motors Inc., a global leader in hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RenewH2, a sustainable hydrogen production, liquefaction, distribution, and dispensing company based in the United States, to collaborate on the supply and demand sides of liquid hydrogen production. RenewH2 intends to reform biogenic methane gas to generate hydrogen within the terms of the MoU. The hydrogen would then be liquefied and sent to hydrogen filling stations created in conjunction with Hyzon. The stations can be positioned near Hyzon clients as a result of this agreement, ensuring consistent demand for…
The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) recently received a funding to assist with the deployment of 30 Hyundai XCIENT Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCET) in northern California. California Climate Investments sponsored a portion of the funding, which was awarded by the California Air Resources Board and the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program. Additionally, the Alameda County Transportation Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District have contributed approximately $6 million in cost-share financing to the project. This will be North America’s largest commercial deployment of Class 8 hydrogen FCETs. These trucks will service…
The world’s first clean-hydrogen investment fund “may face a significant challenge” after raising less than half of the capital it sought in its initial public offering (IPO). HydrogenOne Capital Growth sought to raise £250 million ($348 million) from investors, but only raised £107.35 million, just above the minimum need of £100 million. The business is set to begin trading on the London Stock Exchange on 30 July, with net proceeds of around £105.2 million from the offering. “The funding gap highlights the difficulty providers are having launching investment trusts in certain areas, even those as hot as clean energy, because…
JERA has invested in the operating business that operates the Linden Gas-fired Power Generation Project in the United States through its subsidiary JERA Americas Inc. The operating firm has entered into an arrangement with Phillips 66, a large oil refiner in the United States, to purchase hydrogen-containing fuel gas produced at refineries. The operating company will adapt the existing gas turbine at Linden Gas Thermal Power Station Unit 6 to enable co-firing of hydrogen-containing refinery fuel gas provided by Phillips 66’s Bayway Oil Refinery adjacent to the power station. After completion of this modification in 2022, Linden Gas Thermal Power…
Eni has entered into agreements with KazMunaiGas to develop renewable energy, hydrogen, and biofuel projects in the country. Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, met with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Askar Mamin, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. Eni and KazMunaiGas inked cooperation agreements at the conference to develop renewable energy, hydrogen, and biofeedstock projects in Kazakhstan, thereby expanding and broadening their historic partnership’s scope to include the energy transition. Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc., a pioneer in fuel cell and hydrogen technology innovation, announced the debut of the M-ZERØ product family. Advent M-ZERØ devices, which are built specifically for distant power generation, will enable methane emissions to be effectively zero in areas where they replace methane-polluting pneumatic injection technology. Overall, wellhead methane emissions reach 40 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to the carbon footprint of more than eight million passenger cars. M-ZERØ will first be deployed mostly in Canada and the United States, with the goal of remotely powering up to 185,000 oil and gas…
Johnson Matthey, a global pioneer in sustainable solutions, has acquired the assets and intellectual property of Oxis Energy Limited, headquartered in Oxford, United Kingdom. Oxis Energy was a developer of lithium-sulfur batteries with assets that might be used to manufacture components for green hydrogen production. On 19 May 2021, the company entered administration. This deal, together with modest further investment in modifications, will greatly accelerate JM’s developing Green Hydrogen business. The facility will significantly strengthen JM’s capability to design, test, and manufacture catalyst-coated membranes and innovative materials for electrolysers, as this market continues to grow at a breakneck pace and…
