The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has acquired an equity interest of 17.5 percent in Beatrice offshore wind farm from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). Beatrice is a 588MW offshore wind farm built by SSE using Siemens turbines, has a track record since operations started in 2018 and profits from a Contract-for-Difference (CfD) grant. Following completion of the deal, Beatrice will constitute nearly 12 percent of TRIG’s investment portfolio. Wärtsilä Finland, along with Vaasan Sähkö and EPV Energia and the City of Vaasa, have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on a project aiming at the use of emission-free hydrogen in power generation, industry and transport applications. The project will be located in Vaasa and will concentrate on enabling a new way of storing renewable energy. At the same time, the goal is to pilot a hydrogen-based energy generation solution that is ideal for export markets. Ameren Missouri has acquired the company’s second wind energy center, a 300 MW facility located in northwest Missouri. Clean, renewable electricity from the plant was already reaching consumers, even though some of the project turbines are still under development. Approximately 100 MW are currently in operation, with an additional 50 MW to 75 MW expected by the end of March. The remaining 125 to 150 MW is expected to be operational later this year. Equinor is looking to explore opportunities within offshore solar power, and together with Moss Maritime, Equinor wants to start testing off the island of Frøya. The plan is to construct a floating pilot plant off Frøya near Trondheim in the late summer of 2021. It is set to become the world’s first solar floating pilot plant in challenging waters. PepsiCo has signed two deals with Ørsted to buy a portion of electricity from the 298 MW Haystack wind farm in Nebraska and the 367 MW Western Trail wind farm in Texas. AGL Energy has selected Wärtsilä as one of the two suppliers for their up to 1,000 MW grid-scale energy storage plans. Wärtsilä, in collaboration with AGL, has signed a non-exclusive five-year Large Scale Storage System Frame Agreement for the procurement of energy storage projects. This arrangement would shorten the time frames for tenders for specific contracts, allowing quicker project schedules and commercial activity. Total and Iberdrola have joined forces to build proposals for an offshore wind farm in Denmark. The 50/50 alliance was pre-qualified by the Danish Energy Agency to send a proposal for the Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea. Canadian Solar wholly-owned subsidiary, Recurrent Energy, has completed the sale of the Slate project to Goldman Sachs Renewable Power (GSRP). Revenue from the deal will be recognized in Q1 2021 and commercial sales are due at the end of 2021. The Slate project is a 300 MW solar plus 140.25 MW/561 MWh storage project located in Kings County, California, and construction has begun.
