Decarbonizing the economy to fight climate change is one of the most urgent goals that countries and companies have set for the coming decades. Wind energy is having a huge impact on reducing the world’s reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation, but the challenge of decarbonizing the economy requires the massive deployment of carbon-neutral fuels in other polluting sectors, such as transport and heavy industry. Siemens Gamesa is embarking on the path of decarbonizing those industries by installing the first system in the world capable of producing green hydrogen directly with a wind turbine, with no connection to the…

Vestas recently unveiled to the Indian market, the V155-3.3 MW turbine – optimised for low and ultra-low wind conditions. Based on an internationally tested 4 MW platform, the V155-3.3 MW increases the turbine swept area by 67 percent compared to the V120-2.2 MW and greatly enhances partial load output in low-wind conditions with a high rotor-to-rating ratio. The V155-3.3 MW increases annual energy production (AEP) by more than 3 percent for a 300 MW wind park with 46 fewer turbines, providing an increased degree of business case certainty. The new turbine also features a full-scale converter delivering excellent grid compliance and…

Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) welcomes the recent decision by the Vietnamese government to approve an extension of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme for wind power in the country. Proposed dramatic reduction in the FIT risks significantly harming the development of Vietnam’s promising wind power market, slowing down investment and creating new jobs, and making it more difficult for Vietnam to meet increasing energy demand. The proposed new FIT rates, which will be included in an official letter from the Ministry of Industry and Trade in October 2020, will be 7.02 US cent/kWh for onshore wind and 8.47 US cent/kWh for…
Cypress Creek Renewables has completed the sale of two Massachusetts community solar projects totaling 6.35 megawatts (MW) to CarVal Investors. The projects, which are located in Bristol and Franklin counties, are community solar projects that Cypress Creek developed under the state’s Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) program. “This expansion of the existing relationship between Cypress Creek and CarVal is truly a reflection of the strength of the partnership our teams have built. We are pleased to have this opportunity to get involved in Massachusetts’ SMART program, while providing affordable power to Massachusetts homes and businesses.”Sarah Slusser, CEO of Cypress Creek…
Equinor and SINTEF have agreed on strategic partnership in four main areas. The fields concerned are offshore wind, marine systems, energy systems and modeling studies relevant to these areas. SINTEF is the largest partner of Equinor in the field of research and technology development. Now for the first time, the companies have entered into a strategic partnership agreement. The goal of the agreement is to promote the exchange and creation of ideas and radical solutions between the two partners. The companies will work together on projects that will provide strong value creation and support Equinor’s transformation to a large energy…
Ørsted has made a final investment decision on the Old 300 Solar Center, which is located in Fort Bend County, 40 miles from Houston, Texas, and is scheduled to be come online in Q2 2022. With the addition of Old 300, Ørsted has substantially expanded its solar portfolio and now has 1.1 GW of solar PV under construction, resulting in a total capacity of 3.4 GW in operation and under construction through onshore wind, solar PV and storage. Old 300 is located close to Houston and benefits from a long-term PPA. “We’re excited to add another large-scale, attractively contracted solar project…
MHI Vestas and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have secured a 5000 square meter site centrally located in zone 1 of Taichung Harbour, adjacent to the pre-assembly quayside of CIP’s Changfang & Xidao offshore wind project. The site is intended for assembly activities for some of the projects to be delivered in Taiwan using V174 technology. This site is being leased from Fortune Extra High Voltage, a subsidiary of Fortune Electric. For some MHI Vestas projects, turbine hub assembly and final nacelle-related assembly and testing are expected to be carried out on site. The hub assembly activities at Fortune’s site will…
Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has, on behalf of the Australian Government, provided $12.9 million in funding to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for the development of a major Victorian Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Marketplace trial named Project Edge. Based in the Hume region of north east Victoria, the $28 million project will see AEMO partner with network AusNet Services and retailer Mondo Power to coordinate the development of a replicable model for trading of electricity and grid services from DER that can be expanded across the National Electricity Market (NEM). The three-year trial will create a prototype market…
Enel and Eni are working together to produce green hydrogen through electrolyzers powered by renewable energy. The electrolyzers will be located near two of the Eni refineries where green hydrogen appears to be the best decarbonisation method. Each of the two pilot projects will have an electrolyzer of about 10 MW and is expected to start producing green hydrogen by 2022-2023. “We are interested in exploring with Eni the promising green hydrogen sector. Together, we identified a couple of sites where we can start with the first projects. The overall system we have in mind will be working as a…
