Owned by Japan Renewable Energy Corporation, the wind project will be constructed by Shimizu Corporation and will feature 13 V105-3.45 MW turbines in 3.6 MW operating mode with 84-meter towers.
DNV has signed a $17.7 million contract to become the ‘Owner’s Engineer’ for Changhua Phase II wind farm in Taiwan. It is the largest offshore wind farm being developed solely by Taiwan Power Company (Taipower). The work scope lasting into the second half of 2025 will see DNV support project engineering reviews and marine coordination during wind farm construction. The scope over the project life cycle right through to commissioning includes design review, fabrication assurance, and construction assurance. Detailed design of the 31-turbine project is due this year, with the wind farm scheduled to be online by autumn 2025. DNV…
GE Renewable Energy has been awarded a contract by Vietnam Join-Stock Construction Electricity Corporation to supply a total of eight of GE’s 3.8-137 MW wind turbines to support the construction of the Thuan Nhien Phong wind farm in Binh Thuan province, in Vietnam’s South-Central Coastal area. The deal also includes a 10-year full-service O&M arrangement for the wind farm’s operation and maintenance. The wind farm will be powered by eight GE 3.8 MW platforms with 137-meter-rotor wind turbines and customized hub heights of 131.4 meter towers that are well matched to the wind conditions in Binh Thuan province. Gilan Sabatier,…
NewHydrogen, a BioSolar corporation, presented an update on the advancement of its green hydrogen technologies through a funded research collaboration with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The company recently revealed that it had executed a deal, replacing the predecessor, to tenfold the testing activities. The original funded research program at UCLA centered on replacing the oxygen catalyst, iridium, a precious metal found only in asteroids, with low-cost, earth-abundant materials that equal or surpass iridium’s efficiency characteristics. The aim is to create low-cost, durable materials that can catalyze the electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER) while still achieving high-performance water…
Researchers from Chalmers University of Technology have produced a structural battery that performs ten times better than all previous versions. It contains carbon fibre that serves simultaneously as an electrode, conductor, and load-bearing material. Their latest research breakthrough paves the way for essentially ’massless’ energy storage in vehicles and other technology. The batteries in today’s electric cars constitute a large part of the vehicles’ weight, without fulfilling any load-bearing function. A structural battery, on the other hand, is one that works as both a power source and as part of the structure – for example, in a car body. This…
Smart Communications will roll out fuel cell sites in challenged-grid areas nationwide starting Q2 2021 until the end of the year, in an effort to transition to more sustainable and environment-friendly solutions, while providing connectivity to more communities. As the wireless arm of the Philippines’ largest integrated telecommunications company, PLDT Smart’s shift to green energy follows the announcement of the Department of Energy in Q4 of 2020 that the Filipino government will no longer accept proposals to build new coal power plants, from the new Energy Conservation and Efficiency Act signed into law in 2019. Smart’s 2021 foray to green technology will…
Horisont Energi’s Project Barents Blue, the first world-scale blue ammonia plant, has been selected by Enova as one of five hydrogen projects in Norway to be considered for a matchmaking process with other Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI). The Barents Blue project is a world-scale clean ammonia project in Finnmark in Northern Norway, which includes planned CO2 storage offshore. The facility will convert clean hydrogen into ammonia, an easily transported hydrogen carrier, which can be converted back to hydrogen at the destination. If selected for the matchmaking process, Horisont Energi will be able to link Barents Blue with other…
Hexagon Purus has received multiple orders for its X-STORE 300 bar cylinder and for X-STORE 381 bar version. The X-STORE cylinders are destined for Germany, as well as two new markets for Hexagon Purus, Spain and Switzerland. They will be used for transportation of hydrogen for industry and mobility purposes. The total accumulated value of the orders is estimated at EUR 1.9 million. “Hexagon Purus’ lightweight type 4 composite cylinders allow for very high payloads when transporting gas, reducing total cost of ownership for our customers. We are proud to support our clients in the replacement of Type 1 steel…
BP has revealed plans for the UK’s largest blue hydrogen production facility, targeting 1GW of hydrogen production by 2030. The project would capture and send for storage up to two million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) per year, equivalent to capturing the emissions from the heating of one million UK households. The proposed development, H2Teesside, would be a significant step in developing BP’s hydrogen business and make a major contribution to the UK Government’s target of developing 5GW of hydrogen production by 2030. With close proximity to North Sea storage sites, pipe corridors and existing operational hydrogen storage and distribution…
